About the size of my thumbnail or less. Found in the garden while weeding, put in work pail and brought him at the end of the day when there really wasn't that much light, even in front of the sliding doors. Tried to use tripod, but the little bugger moves quite quickly; also used a variety of vessels but he kept pooping in them - this small liqueur glass has some at the bottom. Held camera with one hand and X4 close up screw on lens from old film slr with the other to get as close as I could. (It ain't the blue ribbon.!)
Slight rotation, crop, adjustments in colour balance, denoise, USM.

Great shot of a snail. They are pretty elusive, so I can appreciate all the work you put into getting this!

Cool shot and a great idea to put him on stemware!

Yes, I like your notes. Adds a lot. You could probably have some fun working on levels, curves, etc., & get a better finished comp. Sometimes, that's all it takes.

I like your story of trying to get this portrait. I really like it and envy it, because I haven't ever gotten a shot of a snail -- only empty shells. The tiny glass makes the snail look quite large -- interesting effect. I think its a terrific capture and composition. It lacks a bit of light. Perhaps a white balance adjustment, to make the background less gray would help. Try a curves layer in luminosity mode.

very cool snail - it is sure hard trying to get moving objects photographed well with a p&s
the image seems a bit underexposed - maybe a bit of level adjustment might do the trick to brighten in up

Quite a cool shot, I like the composition ... whats that about never working with animals, lol. The patterns on the shell are interesting, does lack a little clarity
