Wow,
First Place,
and it hasn't been added to any favorites,
yet.
(I'll give in, you deserve at least one favorite for a 5th to 1st place shot.)
edit changed 3rd to 5th (very original placement)

Many congrats on your ribbon - and especially satifying when your first one is blue, despite the rigmarole you've been through to get there.
Zownd - two shots, first and second place, were DQ'd and as a result this photo has been promoted to first place. Thus the comments.

Beautiful shot, like the idea totally. Take the window with you!!! :)
Just a suggestion on the picture. Use ACDSee edit and increase the blackpoint just a bit. It makes the whole image clearer and increases the sillouette of the rocks. It is stunning that way, try it. And of course, cropping out the bit of sky at top will make the picture a definate 10. I love little edited images winning. I don't like to edit mine too much, feels too much like computer graphics and not enough like genuine photograghy. But even old fashioned photograghers edited the pictures a little in the processing.

I actually like your original un-cropped photo better. It's almost exactly the vision of the photo that I wanted to do for this challenge, but I couldn't find a window sash to use. I was also lacking the beautiful beach sunset. :) Anyway, it's a terrific photo and a well deserved ribbon. Congrats again.

Congratulations! Very well done and you have set an excellent example by posting this picture. I have suggested in forums and in comments left, that some sort of 'verification or comparison' of the 'source' photo should be available to the voters, at least with the advanced editing challenges. Let the voters determine the intent of the rule with their vote. In the case of your entry I would have voted it even higher. I AM aware of the voting guidelines which instruct us to vote entry's as valid or recommend a DQ, I've become skeptical/cynical regarding the entry's that are beyond my acceptable level of 'refinement'. I'm going to follow you lead by posting a completely 'ORIGINAL' copy of my Window View entry. Upon its validation the votes trended upwards. Tim

Thanks for voting me to a third place finish.
I appreciate it very much.
As there is so much controversy surrounding lots of "manipulated" pictures, I thought I would show the original picture.
Especially as someone even suggested that there aren't any rocks at this particular place.
I went to Folly Beach on Easter Sunday minutes before sunrise.
I took a window frame with me.
The glass had been removed.
I had a basic idea of the view I wanted, but upon getting to the beach I noticed it was low tide and there was a rock pool.
I sat the window frame down in front of the pool and took several shots.
This one was the clearest.
All I did to the picture was crop it.
That's all.
Absolutely nothing else.
No color or contrast changes.
Judging by some comments, maybe I should have done.
So there you have it.
I bet you don't get many pictures in the challenges that have so little work done on them?
Maybe the rules need to be changed to allow no manipulation what so ever?
It will stop all the arguments at least!
Or how about that when people submit their entry, they are required to submit the original as well?
That way, the SC people will be able to determine the authenticity of the picture straight away and act accordingly?

Originally posted by nicoledb: Capture of the sunrise is great, but the window distracts somewhat. For example, the highest stone with the interestingly shaped edge in the foreground is obscured from view. Not sure how to solve that though, without creating other composition problems. |
Since this is was a carry-along frame, why not position it better? |

It's a fine picture. I gave it a 9.
But when it got a ribbon a took a closer look and saw that it was staged with a carrie along window frame... ahh... Downgrade in my book.
Hint: Look at the top of the picture.

I´m sorry but I don´t see what is so great about this photo, I feel it´s out of focus, and just low quality in some way. I also think the contrast is not right. And the frame doesn´t look real to me.
Maybe I´m just blind to the beauty of this picture, but I feel It´s highly overrated.
Sorry for my negativity, just my opinion
No disrespect ment |

Wow, very nice! I can't see why this photo shouldn't do very well in this challenge. Great colours, nice soft silhouettes. I like the reflection of the sun. You really should have tidied up that rogue top pixel in your crop which looks accidental to me. As this is an advanced challenge, I'd have used the distort/perspective command in Photoshop to make the windowframe completely square, and then perhaps cropped tighter. |

Strangely enough, the 'validation notice' makes me wonder what might have been thought 'illegal' about this shot. I would guess it's a window frame taken to the shoot with you, but that really is a guess.
It's very well executed, though the scene beyond seems slightly washed out - lacking a touch of contrast, ofr a real punch. |

Beautiful photo! That's a very interesting effect in the foreground. How did you do it? I'll guess and say rocks on wet sand, with NeatImage or Photoshop to remove the texture. A 10 from me. Good luck! |

lovely dual-tones, excellent use of the window as a natural frame as presented 8 (some things that would have boosted the score... crisper foreground - including the bird -- a nice element, the water's edge right along the horizontal window but not quite divides the shot un-harmoniously (if that's a word) |

A little more rotation CCW would even it up; why go only part way? A lttle soft focused on the pier. Otherwise nice leading lines and great hues. Good capture. |
