Can't get enough of this one! Most DPC voters do not appreciate blur when it is appropriate, for the awesome impact that it can have in photos. The ones that "get it" though, voted and commented. This one would sell like hot cakes as large framed prints.

OMG, just came across this STUPENDOUS image! Perfect title, that sea green at the top is so foamy and ocean-like, and the wonderful motion blur of the horse is just so... well, deliciously blurred :-) I'm generally neutral on horses, but with the swirling white mane and tail, the speeding-by ground, and the hint of those galloping legs in so many orientations, I have to fav this big time! |

As I said during the challenge - a wonderful flowing sense of movement in this shot.
Really nice to see something more than a frozen tableau - apparently in some shot's they were doing nothing but eating grass . .

Oh Mae!! This favorite one of mine in the whole challenge was yours???? I thought I had picked it as a favorite when I voted for it -- but I guess I was so enraptured with the photo that I forgot that part. But it went straight to my fave's tonight. It is breathtaking.
I too LOVE the blur! So, Thank you, Gordon. . .what a masterful monster you have created :)

Great shot. Could use just a hint more contrast to me, but I love the abstract nature which doesn't completely obliterate the subject but rather enhances it on so many levels. |

this is gorgeous. It's really, really hard to do such a lovely motion blur of a horse, smearing it, yet keeping the horseness. I love the muted colors in this. My only suggestion would have been a crop that had it running level or slightly "uphill" instead of down. (referring to the body, not the horizon, shoulders higher or level to hips) |

While most may find the blur annoying I find it very interesting and visually compelling to the shot. A great many times we catch the majesty and speed of these beautiful creatures in a static shot. Your shot captures the majesty and speed of the horse by showing us movement. It is not static at all. The lines blur literally as you SHOW us what it is to ride a horse; to feel the wind whip by as we speed along. While there is motion blur you still managed to capture some details of the horse from the face to some of the muscles rippling in the upper legs. I do have one critique though that I think could have made your composition stronger. A lower angle would have created greater visual interest. The shot was shot at a straight and level angle. Had you shot it at a lower angle looking up you would have effectively made the horse appear larger than life. In other words increase the beauty and majesty of the horse by placing it 'on a pedestal'. Still kudos to you for a lovely composition 7. |
