 Hey! This is my first ever DP entry so be gentle! :)

The pound (£) is the last surviving original currency in europe, and it's days may be numbered. Enjoy it while it lasts.
I wanted to find the oldest, grubbiest most war torn coin i could find and as you can tell this old guy has been around for a while (wish i had checked the date now).

I shot this using natural window light on the 400D's standard kit lens (18-55mm) with a cheap screw on macro adapter i got with a fisheye, for the price this thing can get super close and super detail! I shot this on a high ISO hence the grain which sharepning slightly brought out some more.

Processing: small crop, curves, levels, sharpen, save for web.

wtf?! how is it possible to submit more than one entry in a challenge?!

besides the pound is not the only remaining original currency in europe. there's still the swiss franken and the russian rubel, just to name a few...;)

nice focus and detail in this shot!

It looks like this coin has been used a lot. I like the DOF here. I also like the sharpness in the bottom portion of the photo because of the detail it reveals.

I love it! What neat textures - you've captured the detail very nicely here. My only complaint is the composition. I might suggest straightening the coin out a little.

Mmmmm looks like OLDTIMER .... hasn't this happened in past challenges with some planes??
