Yikes! My 2nd posthumous red in a month! (Hope this doesn't mean the camera I took this with is doomed before I can make another entry with it as happened with the first one).
Took this through a double paned window at the end of the day. It is true that we had a brief period of sun with "real" shadows, but I wasn't excited by any of my attempts. As well, I had this sort of Aha! experience looking at the snow, realizing that all the definition of its contours came from shadowing - sort of like the photographic exercise of painting an egg white and placing it on a white ground and photographing it every which way in every kind of light which I have never done.
So despite my knowing that this would not go over ribboningly I satisfied my own conceptual standards of meeting the challenge. What has impressed me from the comments was how genuinely hard people tried to see the shadows. Not kidding - I am moved.
Truly the best thing about these contests is that you never know what your entry will catch in its net.
By the way, I did experiment with the contrast to deepen the shadowing, but found I preferred the subtlety of this. (I cropped, tweaked the gamma, and possibly lessened the saturation, downsized, sharpened and compressed, in Irfanview). |

Woo hoo! Another Posthumous!! I still have yet to achieve that glory, so I am terribly envious of your growing cache of the things. And what's the story on the cameras?? |

This is such a beautiful, refined abstract. I might have given you a blue, but I gave that to a shadowier image. Still, this uses shading if not shadow. I give you a Posthumous Red.

A good still life, subtle shadows inside the vessel. The composition is good. And, I do see some shadows. Bumping this up. |

looking like a snow elephant~! Not sure that "Shadows" jump out at me in this though. Some lovely minimalist lines - great simplicity: I wonder how this would have turned out had it been converted to black and white and had the balances of brightness/contrast stretched...? |

I guess I just don't see the shadows, and it's difficult to tell what I'm looking at. |
