Challenge: Best of 2008 (Advanced Editing VII*)
Camera: Canon EOS-40D
Lens: Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS
Location: Cape Canaveral, Florida
Date: Nov 14, 2008
Aperture: f/8
ISO: 400
Shutter: 1/500
Galleries: Transportation, Science and Technology
Date Uploaded: Jan 13, 2009

Taken from the NASA Causeway, about 5.5 miles from the launch pad, camera on tripod.
Processing was fairly minimal: conversion from RAW, curves, color balancing, high pass sharpening and a significant crop.
It was even more awesome in person, lighting up the whole sky. Because of the distance, Endeavor was well off the pad before the sound reached us. This was probably the final night time shuttle launch.
Thanks for all the positive comments!

A great capture for sure, but I think the real prize is in the processing. I hope you share how you got this result.

Ohhhh WHAT a historic, FABULOUS PHOTO. I am in awe! One of my favorites here so far, and I hope to see this one in the top few. I hope that doesn't jinx you. I have often found myself not much in synch with what the voters have chosen as top photos. I hope I am this time tho :) I'm certainly doing my part. It is my first perfect 10!

WOW - I bet NASA would love to have that. I can see this in an expose in Time or Newsweek. Good stuff.
