Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: Best of 2008 (Advanced Editing VII*)
Camera: Canon EOS-5D
Lens: Canon EF 24-105mm f/4.0L IS
Location: Camas, Washington
Date: Mar 15, 2008
Aperture: f5.6
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/80
Galleries: Portraiture, Children
Date Uploaded: Jan 14, 2009

I had many images that I liked this year. In fact, I had another image from a completely different session, of an adult model, that I had uploaded until about 1 hour before rollover. There was about 8 images that I juggled with, from several different modeling sessions. I really like this one, but still my favorite was already entered into a challenge. I know many will recognize my daughter (yet again) and this was also posted in my PAW 2008. I am expecting some low votes because of the "she is using her daughter again" crowd. But it is near my top favorite's for images of 2008.

This beautiful image brought me into your portfolio once again. It was wonderful to browse your collection of stunning images, both at DPC and in your galleries on your website. My primary interest is portraits. I aspire to get the kinds of amazing expressions and compositions that you do. Thanks for the inspiration!

On a non-fiction level, this has to be one of the most stunningly touching portraits I've had the pleasure of viewing in a long time. There really is an other-worldly, ghostly aspect about this that I can't shake. Fantastic, fantastic work, and a new favorite.

I think your comments are terrific. What a powerful story you created with this image. I enjoyed reading it very much. Thanks again.

And in the darkest of night, where memory has the ability to touch and break your heart, she floats up out of the ether, out from where I thought I had buried the pain and the loss, out from the furthest reaches of my subconcious, to remind me of what we once had.

Our darling, our joy, our taste of the wind and the sea. Her gaze like the gift to us that she was, penetrating our souls. Kindness and laughter and love. Taken from us far too early, but never forgotten.

For in the darkest of night, where memory aches my very foundation, she returns to me. Does she visit my wife as well, on these nocturnal visits? I do not have the strength to ask, but when she comes, I reach out for her, to hold her one last time, to kiss her forehead and tell her that I love her, and that she'll always be with me in my heart.

She lie there so tenderly. Fashioned so slenderly.

Lift her with care, so young and so fair.

Your comment was very moving and touching. I really love he thought and effort to create such a vision. Thank you so much for the emotional comment and the time put forth.

Beautiful capture! I expect this to score really well. Very well done by you(photog) and the young model. Really like the flow of the fabric. It reminded me of water even before I actually noticed the water itself. It's a fave from this challenge. (no vote)

I've seen this girl before, I think. An amazing face, photographed and processed wonderfully. DO we need that dark blue something at the bottom or would a tighter crop work? The mood is so subtle here- she could be an angel or a mermaid, standing, lying down or just floating. Really an amazing image. (10 of course)

this is stunning and faultless, apart from the size - which is a pet hate of mine...why save so small when we can see this in glorious 720 pixels? The colors and mood are brilliant and the eyes are mesmerising...9
