 Shooting my black lab before Christmas. Felt that this was the best of the bunch. I don't think it's my best of all time. Unfortunately I either didn't have originals or they weren't taken digitally.

This photo was not cropped. Applied contrast, increased reds, unsharp mask, increased saturation, converted to black and white, added border and resized.

I don't expect much from this but wanted to enter. I am sure there are some great images in this contest.

Extremely difficult to photograph black animals. This is an excellent exposure in my opinion. And, well, she(?) has that look....

Those sure are some sad and playful eyes! It seems the exposure is a bit low on this, I'm not getting a lot of detail in the fur.

Don't assume that because you have an affinity for your subject, the rest of the world will too. Pretty dark on my calibrated monitor.

You managed to keep a lot of detail in this dark subject, so very well done with that. That being said, I find the photo to be so close cropped, that the composition is quite uninteresting.. I don't know a thing about this dog's surroundings.

Looks like a sweet pup. It's hard to shoot a black animal against such a bright background. Looks like you used a flash, and the light is kind of flat. From this close it would be nice to see some texture in the fur.

There's a precious expression in the dog's face. This would be better if it were cropped down to place the dog's eyes on the top third with just a small patch of light in the top right hand corner. This accentuates the eyes/face/expression and would increase the DPC display size.
