 I am now the world's foremost authority on shoehorn hydrodynamics. I have a fair selection of shoehorns to choose from now. I bought a some more on Ebay, so that my shoehorn fly could remain a bug, and I would also have some variety. Interestingly, the plain old traditional shoehorn made the best splash.

Had some difficulties with this, and should have probably read up on doing splash shots before I tried it. Reflections off the glass fish tank, as well as droplets and bubbles were a problem. I don't know how others get them so perfect and clean looking. Hopefully, my drops and spots will be taken as an interesting feature and not a major flaw. Reshot the photo, wiping off the glass every couple of frames. I'm pretty happy with it now, with only a couple of lesser flaws. Not too bad considering I've not really done these before.

Anticipated critiques:
-Slight blotchiness in the background
-The DOF could have been better to get the above surface splash in focus.

Post-challenge notes:
Came in right where it spent almost the entire challenge. I have to wonder if my entry being so obviously mine hurt or helped it any.

Splash shots are not my style, of course, but shoehorning my shoehorn into a challenge topic is. Since there was no real theme, I figured shoehorning it into a cliche shot was appropriate. Not shabby at all for my first real effort at one of these, though it could have been better. I did learn quite a bit about doing a splash shot, so it was a productive effort.

You did pretty darn well with this image all things considered in what amounts to a free study. I agree with MaryO, your shoe horn legacy is fully intact here! Nice job Steve.

Oh, so a splash is your style now? :) Ahhhhhhhhh, I see, it's a shoehorn. Didn't see that at first - I was mesmerized by the water :P

The lines in the splash make me think of a baseball for some reason. Love this red color!

Actually, it's one of the very few drop and splash shots that you can actually see the top part of the water, so extra points for this.

Very even background, and a very nice capture.

I'm gonna guess This is a Yo-Spiff shot. It's a no brainer with the shoehorn! Infamous style... yet this seems plain. I would rather see some of the great photo's you take on the mock battlefields.
