Thanks again to Photo Assistant Carol for holding down the shutter button as I waved my shoes around on a hillside.
This was taken in the same location as my 'Chairs' entry:
I had originally been going for a reshoot of my entry in the first Shoes challenge, which didn't score as well as I'd have liked:
... but the shoes weren't really cooperating; they just weren't getting lined up right. Frustrated, I let the shoes go while the shutter was still clicking away. Turned out that I'd finally gotten the shoes properly silhouetted, and I liked the way the laces looked. I decided to keep it.
This was again not a rushed entry; I shot two days before the entry deadline. This lead time gave me the opportunity to return repeatedly to Photoshop and make a lot of little tweaks.
PP:
Initially: Crop, dodge & burn, many levels adjustments to different parts of the image, Topaz Adjust (my first time using the thing - what an awesome filter!), NeatImage, resize, USM
Tweaks: Little bit of vignetting, cloned out some distracting spots in the background foothills, lightened hand, face, and forearm, removed an out-of-place lock of hair, restored some detail lost in a small chunk of grass--and there you go.

if you don't count the concept, the composition, the unique square crop, the exposure, the muted tones, the sharpness, the post processing, and even the ridiculously perfect title, there's absolutely nothing i like about this.
