(1) COMPOSITION (CONTENT) â Well composed. I like the position of the sledders in the photo, giving a nice sense of motion from left to right. The diagonal elements really makes the picture â the fence, the tilted fence slats, and the bend of the legs. The one bright coat really draws the eyes.
(2) BACKGROUND â I like the âdull fenceâ, the white snow, and even the dark coat of the adult rider.
(3) CAMERA WORK ,TECHNICAL â Looks good to me; everything looks in focus. The fast shutter speed captured the snow flakes well.
(4) DIGITAL PROCESSING ,TECHNICAL â No changes I can see. Your exposure and post processing got the snow âjust rightâ.
(5) MY OPINION ON THE PHOTO â A very good winter picture. You probably suffered in the voting because of the âsnapshotâ reaction of some of the voters (just a child on a sled). But I donât believe they really looked past the child at the total composition. For the majority of the voters, you might have also tried a slower shutter speed (and smaller aperture) to get a little blurring of the riders & sled. This would have required some trial and error, Iâm sure. You could have also tried some motion blur by moving the camera left to right with the sled. Each would have produced a different âlook and feelâ to the end result.

A great image. I like the slanting effect of the fence.

A kind of snapshot type of picture to me. Maybe if you could have placed your subject (people) more in the foreground to separate them from the fence it would have a better effect.

Fun - I wish I was joining them. I like how the framing of this picture gives the sense of moving downhill. This is an nice family shot that is different from many you usually see. = 7

Wonderful scene. Could have been snapped at a higher shutter, though. Freezing snow in midair could do a lot for this one. Good luck!

What a fun time. The subjects are in the right spot. the lighting is good. I love the way you captured the snow falling. The people seem to bit out of focus.

I like this quite a bit :) The slight left tilt of the fence slats seems to increase the sense of steepness on this hill... good shot :) - setzler

This is a very engaging photo. The way you used the diagonal element of the fence in the overall composition is very effective. It juxtaposes against the slanted angle of the motion-blurred snowflakes really well. It helps me to feel the pressure of the wind against the man and girl's faces. By positioning them far to the left, it draws my eyes to those details, and increases the pressure I perceive from the wind. Very astute compositional decisions :).

A good candid action shot, but the shot needs rotating so that the verticals of the fencing are fully upright, which would also make the slope seem steeper, adding to the action. The colours are quite muted, so the pink jacket really jumps out, drawing attention to the action, which is good :o)

They seem to be enjoying themselves. The snow nearest the camera may be a tad blown out. A crop cutting off the snow above them would make a stronger shot, so you only see the fence behind them. Good photo.

Cute shot, unfortunatly I, personally, don\'t see anything more than that. This picture has a feel of snapshot to me. The upper right conner, might have been cropped. Just an opinon.

I love it...2 inches of snow, and they are out there already!! We wait till there's like 3 FEET before we bother with the sled. LOL. I like the angle and framing/cropping you have chosen here. We are definately going downhill, definately a sled, definately snow. the picture if very clear here. focus is a tad soft on the people, however, that could be due to the fact that they might be moving, or that the camera is trying to focus on the snowflakes that are falling between the camera and the people. a very nice winter shot. Good luck in the challenge.

Memories in the making! I hope these two sledders had an awesome journey down their hill!

Neat shot of a fun day. The color is good, the compositon is okay and the action is good. The trouble to my eye is the light...they are lost against the fence and we can't see their faces. Still it's a good job.

Nice feel, (although cold!) with the sled moving in from the left. Seems a bit dark but that is so tough with the snow. Nice shot. DPz

it looks like the camera is tilted because fence posts and slats are usually veritcle to the ground and these are tilted. even if these are not verticle, tilting the camera to make them verticle in the picture would have made the slope lood steeper and i think would have improved the picture. other than that it is a great composition with good color.

nice feeling...the fence is a little distracting at the angle it is at. Maybe if you cropped out the sky, or if you had rotated the pict slightly.

i like the pan and the composition but i feel the exposure and focus could use a bit of tweaking :) .. mag99

The fence gives great lines to the photo. I would like to have seen one where you tried to follow them with the camera while they were moving so the background would be blurred out too.

Altough the background isn't that great, still a good picture.
It's freezing here, but no snow. :-(

This would have been a good one for motion!

It looks a little bit blurry but great composition. I like how they are just entering the photo.
