Hi Richard, Greetings from the Critique Club };-)
Initial thoughts
Very interesting composition, I feel as if I should have known it was yours as you are developing a style here which is a bit unusual on this site in my mind. I must also say that I admire that style and your work. That said, I think this shot could have had a couple of minor improvements to have been one of your best.
Composition/ Content
The biggest problem I have with the shot is the way it feels like it is leaning to the right. It is centered at the bottom and the top of the stairs is right-center. I think it would have worked better dead-on center. I like the almost dizzying feel of the climb up the ladder.
Background
The texture on the tower or building is excellent. I also like the way the top of the shot seems to go on almost forever.
Camera Work - Technical
The DOF is really excellent as it seems that this ladder is really tall.
Digital Processing - Technical
Other than the lean to the right, I feel that the other thing that could have really made this shot was the color. The blacks seem to have a blue cast and the sky could have been even more blue. I took this shot and adjusted the white balance a bit warmer and then saturated the blue and I feel it made for a better shot. You may want to play around with that a bit.
Fits The Challenge
Definitely fits the challenge well.
My Opinion On The Photo I like the shot alot and after Critiquing it I like it even more. I think that it meets the challenge well but could have been improved a little to finish even higher than it did. Great job, and keep up the good work. I look forward to more of your shots in the future.
I would be happy to talk further about this shot if you would like to contact me.

Good perspective. I am a little distracted by the fact that it is nearly centered at the bottom, but not centered at the top. |

This photo made my eyes widen! I am daunted by this image! You succeeded in getting an emotional response from me on this! |

A nice symetrical shot. The spot of sky in the top left side kind of fouls it all up, and I wish there was something at the end of your tunnel. |

Very cool idea. I love the textures and shapes in this. Your camera angle is great, lifiting the photo and giving us converging lines to draw the viewers eye around. The colours seem a little bit washed out on my monitor, but that's the only flaw. |

Hope that my stairway to heaven is not as old and rusty as this one! Interesting picture though. Maybe it could be a little more to the left, to even out the corners of the top of the frame. |

Interesting pattern. Honestly, I'm liking this less as I review the rest of the photos. The wow/interest factor is a bit low for me, still, it's a very well taken shot. Started with an 8, almost lowered it to a 7, but I'll let it stand as close enough.

I really like the symmetry of this and how it "pulls" you to the top of the frame. Something is lacking, though, but for the life of me, I can not figure out what it is. I will think on it! |

Interesting. Good composition. I had probably cropped it a little at left to make the blue corner up left disappear. And make the lower left corner look like the lower right corner. Just a thought. Overall a nice photo. |

Very interesting abstract. Composition is good, exposure is too. The blue sky adds just the right amount of color. |

Nice angle and perfect title for this shot. It doesn't quite seem centered. |

At first glance, this appeared to be an oddly slatted walkway, but then I worked out that it was a vertical shot :o) The perspective on this shot is simply superb. I'd be curious to see what this shot looks like either as a b&w, or more saturated. |

really confuses the eye about up and down, horizontal or vertical. |

Nice abstract. I wonder if a little more saturation would have made the sky a little blue-er. DPz |

great vision. I like the pattern here... a little bit darker might make the color of the sky bluer and add to the power of the shot |

Other than changing the crop just a bit to have the ladder off the bottom of the frame, I wouldn't change anything. You have good color and composition. Good shot Richard. |

Great compostion, and well executed. There is nothing particular I like or dislike about this image. I think the title makes me rate it a bit higher than I would otherwise. |

I like the way the wires towards the top almost seem to warp or ripple in this shot. The upper left corner is a bit distracting because there is wire mesh doesn't go all the way to the edge - moving in just a tad might have helped, or cropping the shot a bit more on the left. I like the detail captured in the chipped paint and the feeling of perspecive this gives. = 6 |

neat picture. I love the angle. I'm guessing this goes straight up, but in this shot it looks like a tunnel of sorts. Really neat angle. Well done. |

What great depth! Interesting shot definately. I like the round patterns mixed with the flat patterns of the stairs, and the square pattern of the wire around the stairs. focus is very good throughout the shot. what an interesting find. good luck in the challenge. |
