Worked on this one for about 3 hours on Sunday. After about 1.5 hours the squirrel finally came down. Once he got up his nerve to check out the flower, he grabbed it and ran into the tree!!

After that, he didn't come back down. 3 hours gone.

I worked on this one starting around 7:45 Monday morning. Had about 3 hours of patience in me.

Same problem as usual -- he'd come up and turn the wrong way.

Then he'd wander off with the flower:

The one time he picked it up, he turned away from me:

I laid it on the railing, hoping he'd pick it up. Although this one wasn't bad, but I didn't like the food by his feet.

But he only picked it up the one time. (and faced the wrong direction!!)

Then I thought about putting it in a container. Though when the container fell over, it startled him, an I think he went to the bathroom on the railing... It was all wet, and there was no water in the vase!

Even your outtakes are wonderful, I do believe this picture is what my dog sees in his little dog dreams at night when he is kicking and howling in his sleep. This squirrel... that flower... and his inability to dine on them both... haunt's his nights.

Wendy, should you ever decide to sell your home, be sure to advertise here first on DPC. The ribbon value of those backyard squirrels will increase your property value exponentially! Congrats! ;-)

Awesome finish, Wendy! I wonder if we'll EVER get tired of the squirrels? And to think I can remember you as the Bluebird Lady :-)

Congratulations on the Blue, of course this was a Wendy, but you captured a perfect and original moment in a well used subject.
I think that is much harder than finding a new subject to work with. Great work! A testament to patience.

Congratulations on the blue ribbon, Wendy. I guess that squirrel is just like the rest of us, and took a while before it heeded your message!!

I have one squirrel that comes down quite close to me (within 6 inches) AFTER I put out seed and hold VERY still. hee hee This is terrific and definitely deserved blue.

I'm looking up the number for PETA in Va. This abuse of our bushy tailed friends must be put to a stop.

Beautiful framing and editing on this one, grats. Another (yawn) blue.

Congrats on the blue and your uncanny ability to tame squirrels, although this one was easy as it must be a female and a sucker for flowers.

You really must quit torturing those poor squirrels. What in the world did they ever do to you? Oh. They win you ribbons. But still, making them pee on the railing? Poor things! At least you gave them flowers!
