I think this is going to be one of those images that you enter with your eyes closed and ignore the score.
I love this image. Absolutely adore it. However, I am sure that the voters will have wanted to see the seagulls in focus as well. The shallow focus was my choice as the photographer, because I wanted the viewer to pay special attention to the chaser. So this turned out exactly how I planned for it to.
I am sure I will receive comments from people who don't like it though.
Foreground bokeh is rarely appreciated.

I do wish her expression was slightly different though. Not really a fan of that.

Foreground bokeh is SO underrated. And SO tough to do well in an action shot!

If you take a look you'll see this mentioned in the posthumous thread. No bling but mentioned anyway.

I like the uncertainty of the expression.

Apologies - no time for a 'Longer Look' comment before challenge end. I'll come back after.

Back to update this comment. Apologies, I'd forgotten I'd be in an Internet black hole before rollover.

I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.

Positives: Seagulls in focus? Certainly not, the technical and artistic feat of isolating the girl in this way trumps all such notions. I'm sure it was tempting to reflect your eclectic choices with an edgy monochrome presentation - I'm so glad you didn't; the colour works fabulously well. I also like the sloping ground - it fixes our POV so well.

Critical stuff: Not much at all. I'd probably have cloned away that bit of sky just beyond the tip of the wing of the 2nd bird as it competes a little with her face.

Overall: Lovely stuff. Full of life.

Wonderful to catch her hair flying and frame her with the birds.

Lovely fresh simple capture. I wished she was looking at the birds and not past them.

Wonderful capture here as the title says good expression on her face just my thoughts what it would have looked with the birds in focus still a good perspective ..Well done
