Taken outside some very upmarket shops. The young woman is a Big Issue seller (a magazine sold to make money for the homeless) except she never manages to sell any magazines. She sits there all day while the people pass by politely pretending not to notice her. Who am I to judge, I saw her properly for the first time through my camera lens

Some commenters wondered whether the woman was really homeless since she has a badge and a stool and a cup of tea in her hand. I hadn't realized how this would detract from the impact of the image until it was pointed out...it all seemed self explanatory to me. Nevertheless I can totally understand the scepticism. Big issue selling is a sanitized form of begging where the sellers register to prove that they are bona fide and the passers by can hand over money in exchange for a magazine rather than directly to the homeless person. It is meant to preserve dignity on all sides. Not totally sure it always works. Thanks to all those who commented.

Always a very good concept but also, if the girls is a beggar as she seems, a very common view. If the idea was to convey the attempt of the passer by to ignore the beggar, maybe capturing a more extreme attitude, such a turning of the face, would have made for a stronger image.

I think this photo would be better cropped to the bottom left portion. The young man's face is blurry.

Quite sad hey. I would've liked a bit more contrast, but thats just me, otherwise great pic.

nice thought behind the image, but is she a beggar? or is she the stall holder from the right having a coffee but still ignoring her so a nice capture, but that was my first thought on seeing it man ignores eye contact with beggar so doesnt get asked for money....

This image and title appears to me that your idea was that she is homeless and he is ignoring her but it doesn't work for me as she's clearly not begging. She has a nametag badge on her hip, is sitting on a neat stool and not the ground, her cup has a lid and clearly isn't being used for accepting money; it appears like she's just on a break from work or something. A good idea generally but a bit flawed; the b&w was a wise idea.
