on tripod, shot this and didn't even see the 3rd little bolt of lighting until I got home and down loaded. RAW editor, adjusted exposure, set white balance, took down oranges and up luminance on oranges, Denoised, adj curves highlights, and lights a tish, tinyest bit of fill light, took blues down a tiny bit. Straightened shot. CS5 cropped, adjusted hue, made layer copy, topaz with dramatic setting, back to PS, adjusted the fill on the topaz layer. Saved as Tiff, reopened in RAW, adjusted curves hilight up again a tiny bit, denoised again, adjusted blue saturation, and took more out in the orange. Open CS5 dodge cloud tops and lighting, reduced size sharpened, reduced again, unsharp mask, saved for web

I don't know if I did right with the crop... tried several but liked the Massiveness(word?) of the clouds in this.. I was sitting on the banks of the Mississippi in Memphis shooting sunsets when I turned around and saw this storm forming. The only thing really cropped out is a small area of the street below the houses on the hill and some street lights, which were very distracting. Hope I did justice to this awesome scene I was privilaged to view!

Love this shot - the drama in the sky is so in contrast with the peaceful looking houses with their lights softly glowing.

Wow great lightning capture, Katie! This kind of shot can be tough to get, especially as you don't want to drown your camera getting it :-)

I definitely like the way you framed this shot. Makes the houses seem so small in the big picture.

nice lightning capture, but there is no foreground to speak of so the houses are really detracting from this image.

Wonderful clouds!

Perhaps a crop off the top (midway between the two stars on right) and ... maybe even at the second tree from the left... Yeah... I know that gets rid of most of the lightening, but I think a closer crop would give us more intimacy with the storm.

I love the colors and that you've included the houses to give us scale.

Lovely. Truly.

Not bad, but I have a felling when I look at this image that the bottom part is missing, needs foreground.
