 Not terribly complicated. Really liked the reflection in this image so I tried to make it more interesting. Sort of fantasy-like. I am a big fan of this Egret and am just thrilled every time I get to see him ... trying to portray some of that.

A single capture, with a lot of junk in the water cloned out, color shift, a bit of glow, and a gradient filter. The clouds were reflections in the water. Probably not as literal an interpretation of magic as I could have done (we do actually own a top hat), but nothing else I played with was as interesting to me.

Oh, and I cropped it. Not sure how I left that step out; it was pretty significant since my 28-300 was/is broken!

2/7/2012 - I am pretty stunned at the score on this one. I'm past 100 votes and still comfortably in PB territory. Now I like this Egret even more :-)))

WOW. Congrats, Mary! I love to see relatively minor editing winning in expert editing challenges. While I love the things people like Gyaban come up with, this is proof that DPCers still appreciate photography, not just digital art.

Excellent shot. Lucky to have been so close. Whenever I try and take a picture of an Egret he flies away so fast. So hard to get close.

Congrats on the ribbon. I gave it a ten, and it was at the top of my list. You nailed the fantasy feeling, and with a one-frame image IMO is an accomplishment.

Absolutely stunning!!! Indeed this crane is floating between the layers of heaven and earth. Excellent find and beautifully captured and composed. Love the delicate pastel hues of the clouds reflected on the water. The pose of the bird looks as if he/she is dancing. Great, great work - I truly hope this lands a spot in the top three.

Some might say shoehorn. I reckon give it a chance. Great shoehorn! The bird certainly is between heaven and earth and it creates magic (shade) to lure the fish right? Interesting colours and pleasing PP. Almost as if you had a strobe above him.
