This feels like an old, hand-colored image. Especially with the hat, it gives it a very 1930s feel. |

She does look so doll-like, but I kind of like it. I can't tell...very well done, in any case. |

exquisite lighting and lovely use of grain/texture to create a canvas feel
i was also struck by the near perfection of the model and the almost doll like quality of the her skin - but this is what intrigues me... |

I guess one person's 'plastic' is another's exquisite delight. I love the pensive quietude of this Pre-Raphaelite beauty. |

Great light, great portrait! You captured the hair very well. But, since you asked for critique, there's not much life here. As sfalice said, the model looks plastic, it could be a doll (perhaps it's the post processing). |

Do you mind if I ask what texture you used here Neil? I went full view and looked closely and really liked what I saw. I like the light falling on her cheek and her eyes shaded, adding mystery and thus story telling. What is she thinking? Beautifully photographed and processed. I'd love to know how you did it. Cheers, Michele |

this is very very nice! the texture is just right for this image! she has a distant look to her face, but its soft and makes you think about her story and possibly wehre she has been. (*clears throat* anyways...)
Wonderful job! |

hard to critique this one, Neil. to me, the model looks plastic and elongated.
Processing and coloration and lighting are as is usual in your work, wonderful. |

You’ve taken a wonderful shot of a beautiful model. I really like the way you have lit her up and the background works very well. The only suggestion I would make is there appears to be a slight shadow on the background near the front rim of her hat. Possibly a shadow from the hat band. There’s also a little brighter circle in the shadows under left eye. I would clone these out but it might only be showing up on my pathetic laptop screen. Otherwise, perfect!

I confess. I suck at portraits. It's to do with engagement and making the subject feel comfortable which I am sorely lacking. . I'd rather do paparazzi candids form 2 blocks away :) It doesn't stop me from enjoying professional work such as this and understanding the experience needed in both the genre and the use of light. The touch of light on her cheek, the sombre pensive look, the matching and complimentary clothing, hat and BG are wonderful. Natural light or strobes?
Great image. Easily an 8 on it's own, possibly more based on the competition if entered in a challenge. |

Stunning photo, with a beautiful texture, must have taken you a while to process. |
