Geez! One post last year? We used to do better than this. Time for a revival. Where's Ben?

I've got 85mm 2.8 on my mamiya 645 pro tl

But want something but quicker thinking 1.4 territor, think its sekor c mount?

I did see an adapter to EF allowing me to use my extensive collection but would this loose image area and take away from the medium format

I know they'd be wide open but that's what I want

I've got one of these lying around with a 45mm, 55mm & 210 that I picked up for free. You've made me pull it out now, bless you! I've vowed to only shoot b&w because I can do the whole process at home, shoot, develop & scan. Thank you.

Perhaps a side challenge is in order. Perhaps we could resurrect Spurgeon (or just pull him out of the attic and blow off the dust...).

another 2 rolls through today, its going to cost me £12 a role to process but who cares its making me think so much more about my precious 5 shots

need another back for it and maybe another lens oh and a better strap

id love a waist level view finder but then would need to carry my light metre around with me

got my eos 5 as well which i can use all my L lens with, building my vinyl collection as well and just got new turntable and this from the guy with a Bsc in computer science haha

best way to scan them? can have them scanned while processing for £10 or use my flat bed?

i need to learn how to process the b/w film
02/26/2015 03:34:16 PM · #759
There are some good light meter apps for the iphone. Developing b&w yourself is cheaper and much more fun. I use an Epson v600 scanner that works well. I always look on ebay etc for old mamiya packages which include a stack of good lenses, all really cheap. That happens regularly in Aust. If you want perfection and portability, check out the Mamiya 7 or 7ii.

It's a Canon 7sZ with (dare I admit it) a 50mm f/0.95 lens. I shot it wide open for all the shots, hence the somewhat missed focus!

I felt the lens deserved an outing on the camera it was made for before it goes off for conversion.

Both the camera and lens came in the original case, with straps and the lens come with original hood (with its own original case) and the original skylight filter (with its own original case) - and the manual!

They look great Paul, love the softness. I suspected that was a big open lens in your reflection.

That's a comprehensive set of images Giles. Nicely done. I'm finding the colours and tones of colour film to be particularly intriguing.

Agreed- the second shot is magnificent, and, while I'd disagee with the DoF on the next couple shots of aspens, the color is wonderful.

Yeah that was my fault wanted more dof but forgot on my digital I was shooting 1.4 but walking with dog two cameras and the Mrs who is in second shot forgot to change aperture, these are my first medium format ever so I'm pleased with them it'll be going in the bag every time I go out, I need another back for multiple films on go, and is like a wider lens than the 85 2.8 I've got waist level viewfinder would be nice as well

Loving it though

You have stirred my loins.
Do you folks mainly use labs and then scan the prints to put on here ?
Is the choice of lab important these days ?

I can't speak for the others but most people are scanning their negatives (or having their lab do it). I develop and print everything at home, so anything you see from me is a scanned print, usually on 8x10 paper.

A few drugstore chains (in the US) still develop 35mm color negative film, but I wouldn't trust them with anything important. If you're in a big city, you might find one or two places that still offer professional film processing. For most of us, though, the good labs are mail-in (Dwayne's and North Coast come to mind), though once you add in shipping both ways, it can add up fast.

Developing black and white film is neither hard nor expensive. Color's a bit more involved but doable, and certainly cheaper than mail out. Lots of options though...

Mine were scanned (albeit in low res jpeg) at Jessops Neil - but, it's an hour turn around. Bought the film, shot it, took it in, had some lunch, picked up prints, negatives and a disc of jpegs.

A negative scanner runs to about £180. I may buy one, I'll see.

Mine processed and scanned hi res 4 day turn around from camera shop via peak imaging one of the best labs in country do barrel scanning etc

Can have them scanned super hi res but cost a lot

3 films developed and scanned to 30mb tiffs was 25

I watched a lot of videos on developing at home just need some space to do it

A photographer friend of mine has access to a hassalblad negative scanner might tap her up to get a go on it

I realize it's not for everyone, but there's nothing quite like pulling a freshly developed, glossy wet color print out of a print drum.

If I had the time, I would've fully dove into the deep end on film, but time just haven't been on my side. I picked up a free enlarger and everything. There are tons of resources online to find info on how to do it if you've got a bit of time and aren't already swamping yourself with projects. In the US (for others who may read it) last I knew my Walgreens was still providing big box film processing and scanning. Is it the best quality? No, but for somebody looking to dabble, it does the trick to get you hungry.
