Snailby MelethiaComment: This would look lovely as a canvas print. Color tone and texture are beautiful. |

Six Secondsby kleskiComment: Hey Kevin. I actually scored this a 7 so I am caught off guard by your 4+ score. Sitting here looking at the image a little bit longer I can probably give some feedback as to why it would be scoring low even though some of the issues are not big ones for me in this issue. I liked the simplicity of this, the colors are pleasing, the curved tips on some of the streaks and the square crop. I like the almost abstract feel of it. I do wish there was a bit more black around the image as a whole to better frame in the burst. I may have also jacked up the saturation everywhere but the center. Ideas as to why it may be scoring low - I guess the streaks may seem a bit soft but probably the biggest issue is that from a composition perspective it is just a single burst with no other dynamic or interaction around it. Like you were saying - it is not a scene. Full scenes do score better because it gives more of a story. That it is just a centered shot is probably hurting it too - but again that falls into the dynamic of the scene. 5 of my top 16 images (including yours) were of just a burst or multiple bursts - the rest were scenes (all my very top scorers). In challenges like these that can become very repetitious very quick you need to offer up that WOW factor to grab consistently. If your image comes up more consistently at the end of peoples voting queue then you are probably in trouble. Luck of the draw there. While I gave this a 7 I would not have been surprised to see it mid 5. |

A boy and his treeby NeatComment: I don't vote much anymore. I usually just look through the thumbs and see if anything catches my eye. If it does I might fave it, but I rarely leave comments anymore. Even in the threads I just troll. I faved you as photographer the other day because of your interaction in the comment discussion thread. I thought you handled yourself well and appreciated your concern. Then late last night - literally 15 minutes before rollover I decided to vote in the sepia challenge. Very glad I did. This image here had not caught my eye from thumbnail. It scored an easy 10 from me (and 10s arent usually easy from me). If this were my image of my boy I would have it framed huge on canvas and hanging in my living room because even though this is not literally a picture of my it certainly is a picture of my boy. There are some edit tweaks that I may have done personally to make it pop some more or be more like my own work, but really that isn't the point of this image or even the point of my vote. You captured a moment that I love that I can connect with. It brought a smile to my face and had me hang for a while last night as it does rightn ow typing along (I scroll up every so often to take another peek). And then to see that it was you that I faved as photographer who captured this image affirmed my decision to fave you as a photog (and looking through your portfolio gave me other reasons as well).
In shorter words - Lovely work. Thank you for sharing. ;) |

Into the Great Wide Openby MelethiaComment: My entering is dying down again and I havent really voted in a while. I do a quick surf through the challenges looking to see if something grabs my eye. I add a fave here and there to acknowledge the image but I haven't had much time for commenting - even on the images that strike me. This morning I decided to look through my faves. It is funny how I can fave an image in challenge and then I don;t go back to my fave folder for a while. And when I do it;s like seeing a challenge full of images that I love. Not a dud in the bunch. This morning though as I checked my two scores (which I am stunned are as high as they are) and then hit my fave folder and this one stuck out. Well two stuck out actually for very different reasons. This one gave me a refreshing sigh. It made me think that this is what I want today and that today I will actually get it. Not that I am down or that I long for an uplifting moment. Far from it. But that I am so looking forward to today. And this image exemplifies what I expect and not just what I wish. I love this image.
And the other image, which struck me as much as yours for very similar but very different reasons, depicts what I expect at the end of the day. Not with a sense of dread but looking forward to it as well as my day of swinging comes to an end. ;) |

Ruffled Feathersby patchesComment: I only get to see rose breasted grosbeaks once or twice a year as they migrate through. And I have never gotten a good shot of them. This is lovely. |

Waiting My Turn by njsabsComment: Rowan is having her first ballet recital next friday and her dress rehearsal is today. I am hoping to capture something along these lines of her and one of her friends as well. I love this image. The light is lovely. What did you have on camera left? Just a reflector? |
