I like the overall idea. I can also relate to how hard it is to shoot living animals. Pesky things seem to have their own opinion about where to be and where to move!

That said ...

The focus on the spider's a little soft, and the background's a little too complex colorwise; a straight mix of greenery would be less distracting.

I'm of mixed mind about macro shots like this. Part of me says this is a closeup of a small thing, so let's just go for it and blow the spider up way big, dead-center. For example:
or

Then again, maybe you really want the background to help set off the subject:

Either way, I think you want the spider bigger.

As for lighting, you have to be careful. The tip of the grass blade above the spider is pretty bright, drawing my eye away from it. And again, the curving light thing through the middle has the same issue.

Sometimes you can solve those highlights by deliberately underexposing. That would also give you a shorter shutter speed, so the spider would move less. Then brighten things up in post processing.

To sum up: it's a nice shot, but with attention to some details, your next one will be even nicer. :)

I like so many things about this shot - the colors, the arrangement, the lighting.

I also really appreciate that you took against a real sky, not a computer monitor.

This is one of my favorites, and one of my faves among my faves.

My wife was also a teacher, and you've so captured her life. As I'm sure you know, it goes WAAAYYYY beyond the classroom, too!

Talk about joy in your environment! :)

I have nothing to sugggest improvement, so I'll just say that it reminds me of when my young daughters and I go "puddle hunting" in our rain boots.
