| 11/04/2004 06:11:07 AM | Physicalityby nico_blueComment: i think i might be prepared to guess who this is, Mr Alci. even if i'm wrong, it certainly has that very particular style which for bodily pictures works very well. i love the tones you've used (not quite sepia, kind of green aren't they?) and as per the norm, it all works very well. the only slight criticism is that it appears a slightly over liberal use of neatimage (or similar) has been applied in the region of the hand. still, a very dramatic, tense and attention grabbing shot. 8. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 11/04/2004 06:01:51 AM | The Lighthouseby siggiComment: this is one of the hardest pictures to comment on. it's unique feature which i do like is the inclusion of the Plough constellation. i've never seen a such a thing so well defined in a photo before. i think it's a bit unbalanced by the area of black in the foreground, and i also think that the lighthouse seems a little small / lost in the shot. it's like, you've got two great things (three including the sunset) and you're not sure which one you want us to look at. i think thats the problem - there's too much unrelated stuff in the shot. less would be more, i think... 4. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 11/04/2004 05:51:45 AM | Oppressionby lennierComment: i like the angle that this has been taken very much - it's very dramatic and it certainly conveys your title. i might have been tempted to de-blue the sky, i.e. make it all B&W or sepia even. don't know why, specifically, but i think it might work. maybe, notwithstanding that the sky is also (beautifully) dramatic, the blueness feels a bit optimistic? still, the shot DOES convey a lot of drama, got me thinking (breifly) about the merits (cool icons and flags) and disadvantages (Trabants and the KGB) of communism, and is enjoyable to view. 8. |
| 11/04/2004 05:42:58 AM | Splendorby amsmythComment: very lovely autumnal colours here. i'm not sure that the reflections in the water really adds very much - i think it's becoming slowly a bit of a cliche on this site... and one personal gripe is showing everything that's reflected. Having the water edge along the middle of the photo just looks a bit unnatural. Try cropping out the reflected sky, it might balance your image a bit and give a presentation in line with the rule of thirds, which really does work in terms of maximising visual appeal. the tree is beautiful (so red!) and the yellow and orange bushes very pretty too. 6. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 11/04/2004 05:34:38 AM | Elyseby hanlombaComment: for the first time in 429 comments, i am going to use the word "sexy" (i've yet to comment on any of my own photos of my other half). your model is gorgeous, and you've captured her gorgeousness very nicely indeed. the fur clothing, the wooden floor, posture, composition (even though i don't normally like upside down type poses), facial expression, discreet glimpses of skin and everything else makes this a sensual and flirtatious image. lovely - 10. |
| 11/04/2004 05:15:03 AM | Walking - standing stillby arngrimurComment: very odd choice of subject matter, and not something i would have thought of ever taking a picture of. very original thought processes going on, obviously. i like it quite a lot, actually. i think the big area of the black unbalances the shot a little bit - cropping it all out might ave helped some. but i love the shades of grey in the paving, and the silhouettes make for interesting viewing. for some reason, i ADORE the pigeons lifted leg! nice image - 7. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 11/04/2004 05:12:19 AM | Close encounterby CorwynComment: this is one pissed off bird! i love the expression on his face - very nasty evil look. this is a great picture, with some lovely sharp details. the blurring of the background is also a nice touch and automatically makes one focus on whats in the fore ground. good job! 8. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 11/04/2004 04:55:51 AM | Open Eyesby magnetic9999Comment: very startling eyes, and a very gorgeous shade of brown. under the rules though, you could have cloned out some of the red in the eyes, the slightly dark line the is evidence of contact lens's and possibly made the white of the eyes a bit whiter... might have given the subject matter of your title a bit more definition and prominence. still a lovely, well composed and taken image though. 7. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 11/04/2004 04:34:29 AM | There's a clown in us all.by kirtiebuComment: unfortunately, not in me there isn't - to be honest, I've personally found clowns excessively creepy and freak me out a little bit, so it's not a shot i would hang on the wall. I do appreciate the effort obviously employed in getting this shot done (unless the dressing up was for another reason - grocery shopping perhaps?). technically it's okay, a TINY bit out of focus (more in the clothing area, really), the pose does looks a little forced / unnatural, and i don't know, a beige / grey shaded sheet as a background doesn't really fit (circus tent would have been useful, though admittedly not very practical). I think it might be more effective if it were taken closer to the face, and maybe made B&W... however, lots of kudos to your volunteer for dressing up... 4. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 11/02/2004 09:08:43 AM | Keysby darixComment: not sure, really. the very precise depth of field looks a little fake, sudden and unnatural. it might not be editted, i can't say for certain, but it just feels a bit, erm, wrong 0 i think the harshness along the top edge of the in-focus key does it. I do like how it goes slightly bonkers in the top right though, and conceptually, this is a really good photo - quite arty, in fact. just needs to go a little softer on the softening... 5. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
