Morningby gangwComment: it's a bit silhouettey, and you might get marked down a bit for that. as a shot without challenge considerations, it's a very attractive landscape picture. i don't know how big the original shot was, but i think youmight have considered cropping off the lower half - there just seems to be a bit too much water and dark indistinguishable bank. the sky is fantastic, the clouds especially cool as they appear to be emanating from the sun. it's a shame that portion of the shot (trees and sky and reflection) forms a small part of the overall composition. 6. |

Pure Whiteby redfusionComment: not sure it strictly fits the challenge, or at least doesn't suggest especially that's it's been lit from behind. more on top really. also, i always felt the ipod looks better without the stand and even the headphone lead - mush less cluttered that way. angle of position of the camera needs lowering - i suspect a more straight-on image might reduce the swelling of the sides of the main subject. also, focus seems to be on the grain of the table, rather than the ipod. |

Serene Heated Lightby MalachaiComment: monkey! awww! so cute! and a very nice shot too! the lighting certainly adds to the shot too - i love the way the edge of fur is illuminated. only slight slight minutest reservation is that i think the little guy fills the frame a teeny tiny bit too much. but that's a stupid thing to comment on, so 10 it is. awww! |

baseballby nruterComment: it's a strange choice of subject, and by not having something even moderately translucent in the shot i think is somewhat a disadvantage to you. doesn't really yell "lit from the back" to me... sorry. |

Sun Driedby charlotteComment: i shouldn't like this, i should be bored rigid. a shirt? on a washing line? pbblffft! BUT, i am drawn to it, intrigued and i find this visually very appealling. the bits of fauna at the very very top are a little distracting, and i'm in two minds about the dark clothing on the right - i think more sky in this portion might have been slightly preferable. but i like muchly the angle of the shot, the dramatic use of greys and blues, and basically your whole brazen and audacious confidence of submitting a shot of your washing line! go you! 8. |

lost in her eyesby sixmacsComment: this is a very lovely photograph. i love the colours and the lighting - the whole thing is steeped in feeling and ideas. thoughts of iconic images of the early seventies comes to mind, and is strangely evocative of France, for some reason. the only thing i would add is that your model might have tried smiling a little bit - not madly but have at least a bit of a grin - all the sinshine and warm colours should really be with a happier sense of feeling, but maybe that's just me. still, a captivating (challenge fitting) shot. well done. 9. |

Blue Laceby SamaraComment: in terms of choice of materials, i think this is pretty good. the problems for me lies in location of the shot, and the angle of the shot. the camera is not in the best position here - if it were more to the left and more head-on then i think the shot would look better straighter. true, that would mean falling in to some level of conformity, which gives you a blander shot... but the window frame at such an angle is a major distraction. also, the lace net curtain, which i'm afraid is not often very photogenic. try a cheap sheet of perspex, or indeed a white sheet - either of which would have made the background a little less messy. the vase on the left is very pretty, and the transluscent appearance is very effective. it certainly fits the challenge, but really on a set-up like this, less is more. just one vase and a plain background might be worth playing with for a bit. 4. |

Photosynthesisby cabaComment: looks like a horticultural version of the opening to any james bond film! i like this greatly though - the greens are luminous, the detail is nice and sharp (althugh a little is lost in the lower left hand corner - which also looks moderately discoloured from the rest) and i like how you SCOFF at the rule of thirds having the centre stem all the way over to one side - choice of composition is very nice indeed. fits the challenge, and is a viable hang-on-the-wall image. 8. |

Dance Party Candidatesby geewhyComment: this is so werid - you two guys look almost exactly like superb band Lamb. this so very fits the challenge! i'm not greatly keen on the font - something a bit less, erm, scruffy (?) might suit a little better - something like the one i'm typing this out with, and in one bold colour. possibly not so big. that aside, i think it's dead impressive - and your models looks and poses are SO right for the band name. bravo you. for the photo - 10. but the title IS part of the overall look this week, so i think it feels more an 8. |

gadiveby fstopopenComment: i'm having a great deal of difficulty deciphering this. the image is too pale / bright to work as a conceptual piece of astract; it's just lacking in depth really. also, i'm not sure what "gadive" is (unless it's a typo of "Godiva"), and it being green and all blurry just makes it a little strange for my tastes. have to be a meany re the score here. sorry. |
