I dont know if you were going for a high contrast situation here, but the table is definitely blown out. Taken too far, IMO.

I'm not too sure why I made that "5" comment... I didn't even vote in this challenge! I normally wouldn't just pull a Hokie and leave a number as a comment, I swear!

While eyes are certainly an engaging subject, youre missing some essential elements here. Sharper focus and a more dramatic B&W conversion would bring alot more interest to this shot. Ive given this a 2, but I encourage you to try this a few more times and see if you can improve your result.

I'm sure a million people will point out the faults in this. As it is, I have no reservations giving it a 1. I dont really see how this could be considered a portrait, but I'll try to offer some constructive criticism anyways. The bowl? has good contrast in it, but your small size and lack of detail hurts it alot. By using a larger, higher quality image, youd bring out the detail and texture that are essential in a black and white. The contrast is there; adding the other two could make this a decent black and white (although not a portrait!).

Hope that helps, better luck next time.

I voted this low due to the poor quality and the fact that its not in focus. Sharp focus on the face to emphasize texture and detail, along with a tighter crop, would help you in the future.

I originally voted this a one upon not seeing a person. But, I suppose this challenge just said "portrait" not "portrait of a person." Still, I think it was fairly clear that that was the intent of the challenge, but I'll bump this up anyways.

Theres alot of clutter and confusion here. I have a hard time making out the subject as he is a dark figure against a dark background. Having him against a light background with a tighter crop would improve this shot by a large margin.
