I am not here to win challenges, I am here to learn. I have improved so much from my first entry (2 montyhs ago) and I think it will only get better from here. I love how helpful the DPC community is. No matter what scores they give me. I am happy here.

I asked if Kelly's club could have a logo like WPL - she posted this. Maybe one of us can figure something out based on her concept? |

AU is the elemental abbreviation for gold, if that helps. |

So you'll add a ribbon placement for us, using "our" (Kelly's) color? |

Although I'm not eligible, I understand the feeling and have had many entries that would fit right in. I think this is a wonderful thread, kelli. Aside from Team Suck, I don't see so many other threads that support and help each other so positively. |

Just trying this.....
Just click on the image icon and put the number 483112 and you have it.
You could put in in a message or in the signature line.
Oh.....and an awful lot of our images are "Good as Gold"!

Sorry about the mix-up, Kelly! I saw Kelli had posted on this thread a couple of times and thought she was the author. |

AU5: 4.8911.
AVC(Average Vote Cast): 6.3071
I keep my average under 5 by shooting for the Brown every couple of months. (with success in 7 challenges over the past two years, which is nothing close to whiterook's success in the basement with a DPC all time record of 15 Brown ribbons in 25 challenges including 9 for 9 in his first nine entries!) I find the cellar dwellars delightful company on occasion, and have also enjoyed the strange spotlight (in a quirky kind of way) that is cast upon the basement of DPC. Last summer, in just one short week (7/11 to 7/18) I went from Brown to Red and found that elevator ride quite a DPC rush. Overall my average vote received matters little to me. I shoot and enter photos for the creative process and personal enjoyment. I love to shoot stunning nature landscape photos and digital fantasy photos with that wow factor but also love entering photos with a twist causing the voter to type in a LOL or a DNMC just because they either get or don't get the joke.
A few examples of such entries:
Regression--This image was disqualified from the Progress challenge
Challenge: Progress
Place: 151 out of 151
Avg (all users): 2.2500
Undecided
Challenge: Decisions
Place: 270 out of 274

Isn't there a brown ribbon floating around somewhere and of course the yellow one so it might be tough to make a gold one that stands out as such. Maybe an animated one that sparkles perhaps?

I was thinking about how to make the gold stand out - my only thought was to make it orange but this is WAAAAY cooler. I can't do animations so if someone would like to tackle this it would be awesome.
Keep posting, everyone! Each post has been so exciting for me to read.

Mine is at 4.4 at the moment.
Still looking to improve on a number of fields of my photography, and my PP also need a lot of work. I find that I often get "overwhelmed" by a stunning location and then I impulsively take photos without giving much thought to composition or proper lighting. But at least it is getting better, and i am paying more attention to detail these days then when I started out.
Fun!

No problem. Just counter-balance your entries with shooting down into the DPC Cellar by aiming for the elusive Brown on occasion and enjoy life in the AU5 (Average Under Five)Club forever. No reason to spoil the fun!

I like David's philosophy of grabbing the voters by the......Hmmm factor every now and then.
Y'all remember my B&W entry?
I got the most comments ever (69), that one having 637 views versus even my ribbon at (68) comments and 6507 views!
I also got my favorite, and most incredible comment from that entry as well from a much respected member of the DPC community.
The score? A darn respectable 4.4857 especially when you consider that I got 27 bitter, spiteful 1s!
That one also got me an OOBIE, and the admiration of my Team Suck-mates.......a goal to truly strive for IMNSHO.

Haha, well, there is always that.
But I'm thinking that probably we can just say, you have to hold an average over five for one month before you don't qualify.
But also I think that if graphics are made, we should do one with a gold ribbon / line (previously posted) combo, for "official" participants, and then another graphic that people who do not qualify can use if they still want to show support/agreement.

Need I say more? I'm home, yay! I joined this site cause it looked like fun, and I do enjoy the challenges. I used to take the scores a little too seriously but then I discovered Team Suck (think I am the lowest scorer on Team Minus) and now I have a helluva lot more fun. And I am improving, gradually, getting better with my technical stuff.
And I am now submitting to Fotolia, with the big guy Alamy in my sights, so I can't be THAT bad a photog. But there are challenges where you can anticipate the kind of shots that are likely to appear, so I try to circumvent that and do something different.
So now I just go and shoot what I feel like shooting for a challenge, then sit back and watch how it does. Then I send in a bunch more picx to Fotolia. I try to make it all balance out in the end. |

Av about 4.8. Great to hear about others swimming about in the middle light. Nice to get a good comment, one or two high scores, criticisms of all kinds. However, I have only one fav. Bet you guys have more? |

I must admit that I would like to have higher scores, but on the other hand I must admit that I just don't put so much thought, time and diligence in my shots and post processing compared with those that score higher that I think my average score is quite okay.
What I like about DPC is that it encourages me to take photos I wouldn't have come up on my own. And it teaches me to take a closer look, by the comments and also by looking at the work of others during voting. So I'm quite positive the scores will improve over time, and if not - so what, I learn anyway and I still have the fun.
(Edited a typo.)
