I've seen several bad comments on very well done nudes on this and other challenges. What is it with this puritans?. The human form can be beautifully portraid in pictures as long as its done in good taste. If you dont like nude pictures dont look and/or vote. It is as simple as that.

Everybody has things that they just don't like. I would hope we can get beyond our likes and dislikes and judge the photos on their merrits, not on your opinion of the subject matter.

Name a well done nude?

I have seen some good ones and I have seen some bad ones.

Did you have some specific ones in mind? Without a point of reference for your comment it comes across as a troll more than a discussion.

Some people might have had a bad childhood and they don't don't feel comfortable looking at nude. I myself don't care for alot of nude. It seems dirty to me. Sorry.

On a totally opposite note...there is a web site dedicated to 100's of photos of nothing but human poop with the rating system of 1-10, and people are giving 10's! I supose some of those people don't like nudes either. Funny how things work out.
Personally...if it's done in good taste, bring it on. May come as an eye opener at first, but I'll get over it.
However, there are times when it's not appropriate. I don't see how a nude could fit nicely in the current voting challenge.
Anyway, on to commenting. Glad there are a few less this week. I literally was up to the last minute commenting last night. But I got everyone done!! woohoo.
Take care.

was there a nude in the childhood challenge? Did I miss something here?
08/26/2002 12:29:36 PM · #7
Didn't see a nude in the Childhood challenge, there was one with a young lady coming out of a pool wearing a smile and a skimpy top... liked the subject matter but the photo didn't seem to fit the challenge requirements.. hence a low vote from me.
As far as nudity I have no problems with it whatsoever...but does it belong in the challenges? Yes, if it fits the requirements. My first thought in the Pencil challenge was one that I didn't see used.. the infamous "Pencil Test".
I have more of a problem with entries that by no stretch of the imagination have anything to do with the requirements of the challenge.

NO NO NO..there was NO nudes in the childhood challenge...that's not what I meant. I just meant that there is a time and a place for everything. I love nudes, where they are applied right, and done tastefully. Throwing the naked pencil guy into the childhood challenge, I think would strike a LOT more nerves even than when it was in the pencil challenge.
That's all I was saying. Just that sometimes it's appropriate, and sometimes it's not.
Whew. Sorry about that!!

actually heather it wasnt you. it was guillermo's first post in this thread, saying 'I've seen several bad comments on very well done nudes on this and other challenges' that made people think there must be nudes in childhood.

exactly, mag.

He may be referring to the pencil challenge and the only nude I remember was not well done.

Photosig has a lot of very cool nudes that have lots of comments so you can get a feel for the attitudes there. Many of their nudes even have some risque elements like bondage or other stuff and they still are VERY good.

The thing about photsig..its an open site..there are no topics there every week so more nudes will be posted.

Which 'ole Martha Stewart would say "Is a very good thing" :-)

I'm not exactly sure what everyone considers a "nude". I'm guessing, Hokie, that you're referring to my photo last week. I admit that it had technical problems, but I don't really think it was in poor taste even if someone did say "Im not sure what pencils have to do with this other than a cheap reason to take a nude photo". That was definitely not my thought. I just wanted to use the pencils in my hair, and couldn't come up with an interesting way to shoot it without distracting more.
The other nude last week (Hana) WAS done well, and I really don't think either one showed any more than you could see in public on a hot summer day.

indigo, of course, i don't know for sure, but i suspect very much that they are talking about the male nude photo that was removed from the pencil challenge very soon after the photos were made available for voting, not your photo. yours is definitely not in bad taste.

i'm thinking that what wasnt meant was nudes but newts.

i've noticed there is a really strong anti-newt backlash on this site..

I have to step up and say that "Newts need love too!"

OK?!?!

Ummm...Hardly :-)

There was a photo that was disqualified for full frontal male nudity that (in my opinion now) was of extremely poor quality and to many was offensive. Wasn'
t offensive to me. I can't really say anything shocks or offends me :-/

I hardly call this photo or this photo nudes. They are extremely good (though not what I consider nudes) and I rated them highly.

This Photo is considered a nude by many (more semi-nude really) but is one of if not the best nudes I have seen on this site so far. So there is room for quality nude/semi nude photography.

God help you Mag...you're just so misunderstood....lol.

I dated a newt once...he broke it off. I'm sorry..but I can't love any other newts.

LOL KD!!!

the only newt i think should be banned is Newt Gingrich.

There I said it.

I wouldn't really call my entry a nude either, but I also don't consider pics that are DQ in the first five minutes to really be part of the challenge and since there weren't any other possibilities...

Wonder how many naked babies we'd be seeing if this challenge didn't specifically disqualify them. :o) I think naked babies are often very funny.

Gee look what I started! Maybe there should be a nudes challenge and see where everyone stands or perhaps get banned from the site. It will be interesting to see how many pictures survive.

I'd rather see a well done nude than a horse's "pencil".

That would be fun but unfortunately I don't think that everyone has access to photogenic nude models.

That's like a car challenge. Most of the vettes and cool 4 wheel drive trucks have the advantage over the Ford Escorts and Minivans :-)

And a nude challenge, unlike a car challenge, doesn't allow you to shoot your neighbors latest model >:-(

But couldn't nude be any unclothed body part? Or is it specifically a body part that is usually covered? I have an ex who works out a lot and I'm sure he'd let me take a photo...but how many of you want to see a man's nude body, no matter how wonderful it is? I think it could get interesting if we had a nude challenge.

And this is just my opinion but I have no problem with nudes that are well done. I've seen some really beautiful nudes on photosig and other places....but I've also seen some really raunchy nudes there...more like "Hustler" than anything else. The human form has beautiful lines and shadows....but if you can't shoot it in a way that enhances that beauty....then don't. My opinion, like I said.

I agree...nudes don't mean they have to be full frontals or exposed genitalia.

I am gonna have a hard enough (pun not intended) time with the candid challenge. I can jsut see me going up to a person and saying "You don't know me but you would make a great nude model >:-D"....

After they finish beating me up I can do a hospital challenge :-)

LOL...oh man....an open hospital gown should afford you many opportunities to get more nudes!! in case the one you got beat up for doesn't work out. :)
