Yes. I did make and decorate the cake. I was going to decorate it in photoshop, but then I realize that I had no clue how to do that effectively. Luckily I had a little bit of frosting left, so I did a quick job at it.

No, the squirrels did not get to eat the cake. They got peanuts and sunflower seeds, instead. After that much work baking and frosting the cake, the squirrels were not allowed anywhere near it!

I wish I could have blended the top squirrel in a bit better -- it doesn't look real to me. It looks photoshopped (because it is. :)

Though expert editing isn't my area of interest, it is fun doing it every once in awhile. This one was extremely frustrating because I wanted a more zoomed out shot. It's a footed cake plate which is quite nice. But I hated the table cloth I used, so I wanted to cut out the squirrel and paste him on something different. But the squirrel on the left's tail was so incredible furry and complicated, I couldn't realistically cut it out!! I worked for about 1.5 hours trying to get it, and then realized that I could just crop it in and skip the stupid tail.

So there's the tale. :)

I've had 3 sevens this week, all for incredibly silly or dumb shots. I'm thinking I should just skip regular shots from now on. :)


I feel really badly for Dallas, Denielle and her family. I hope Dallas had a chance to see the pictures, and I hope it made him smile.

It did feel weird eating his cake, though. :)

Fantastic. Just absolutely fantastic! I smile every time I look at this :) I like the use of a background that looks almost like a paper bag and the somewhat retro border---it gives a great warm feel to the image.
