This was the last hurrah on my trip through Maine. I drove through a torrential downpour to get to this lighthouse, and the rain moved out just before I arrived at sunset. I was joking with another photographer that any second the sun would break through and light up a perfectly positioned rainbow behind the lighthouse. No such luck. There were breaks in the clouds on the western horizon, but the sun never came through and it was just a gray, dreary scene. The other photographer gave up while I stayed to try some long exposures of the surf.
I finally packed up and walked back to the car with my kids, and as we were getting into the car to leave I looked back... just as the lights came on. WOW, EVERYBODY BACK OUT OF THE CAR!! The gray clouds had faded into blue twilight, and the lights on the buildings completely transformed the scene. By then the kids were tired and hungry, so I only stayed a little longer, but it was well worth it.
There's actually a large channel between the foreground and island, but it's mostly hidden by the low angle. The body of water in the foreground was only a small puddle, and I was on my stomach with the camera directly on the ground. The shot is an in-camera HDR. A stiff sea breeze eliminated any hope of a sharp reflection, but I was able to smooth the water with the long exposure. |

The Nubble. They sure know how to dress it up, don't they? Beautiful clarity and colors in this lovely capture. Voted earlier. |

a great shot of the Nubble Head Light. I am liking the cobalts and ultramarine blues. |

Nicely seen and processed. Although it seems strange that you would not clone out the ugly telephone wires and straighten the slight tilt |

Magical image shot at a non time of day. Great reflection and colours (exposure) considering TOD. Whoever designed that lighting was an artiste :)
Could be a classic Denise shot? |
