Critique Club :-)

Formal Consideration:
How well were the technical possibilities utilized? For what you had to work with here I think you did a fine job. Get any closer and you would have have had your eyes gouged out.

Does this photo convey a message?
I think this shot does convey a message, but not one of Humor

Color and Tonal Balance:
I think the colors in this shot could have been brought out a little better. This image is in color and it is attractive, but I think the Color could have been enhanced with a bit of a fill light. I know how hard this shot had to have been in fear to scare him off, but a nice diffused fill would have set the colors off greatly in my oppinion. What does this shot look like in Black and White?
It must be very dramatic.

Composition:
I think this image is framed ok for the subject matter. Personally would have put a little bit more background to his left which would move his head to the right a little. I think this image draws your eye to his eye and that is very important.

Conclusion:

What you have here is a photo that deserves a better score just based on complexity alone. I would assume that the challenge it was entered it took a toll on the shot. With a little change in the color and maybe the hue of this shot, you have somthing you can hang on your wall which is what I base all my oppinons on. I call it wall appeal.

That is just an afterthought.

The focus is the head, not the whole owl. Also the focus is too soft. I like the way the owl does stand out from the background. Good job there.

What a shot! DOF is good, although I find the background a little distracting, and overall, the shot has kind of a "fuzzy" feel to it.

Looks pretty ad (crazy). I don't see much humour in this shot but I do like the depth of field you used, and the overall composition (how the owl fills in most of the fram). Jakco 8

Everything about this pict is cool. It's just not that funny.

The photo seems pretty good, although it is too small to really appreciate details. The DOF looks good as well, and the subject is well placed. Unfortunately I failed to find the humour in this one.

He looks mad alright and a little funny I guess. He also looks a little overexposed and blown out on the left side. You might try to block out some of the bright sun by holding a piece of tissue in front of him to subdue the light. Of course he would probably fly away if you did that. Oh well it might help in another circumstance. 5

without the title there is no humor in the photo... and I am not even sure there is humor with the title... sorry,

Lighting looks like it was difficult for this shot. Some blown out areas on the owl. Not too bad though. Focus and clarity are good. I like the angle and framing/cropping very much. The blank space in front of his face is good. The colors seem a bit muted. Was that a result of the harsh lighting? I wonder if some saturation level adjustments would help at all. worth a try anyway. What a pretty animal. Good luck in the challenge.

Great shot of the owl, must have taken some work to catch this pose. Wish the lighting had not been so harsh, or his right side could have been brightened more, although the flip side of that is the lighting on his front side draws your eye to his face.
