Challenge: Got Milk? (Classic Editing) Collection: ZZ DPC failures Camera: Fujifilm FinePix S602Z Location: Livingroom, table between three windows Date: Jan 19, 2003 Aperture: F11 ISO: 160 Shutter: 1.3s Galleries: Advertisement Date Uploaded: Jan 19, 2003

Strong coffee, with a sachet of milk powder. Three milkchocolates from Droste (melted, so I just had to eat them!). I hate my coffee like this, I wan't it black, strong and hot. Most of your American coffee sucks btw, weak stuff that looks like tea and tastes like water from the gutter.
Lighting by natural light from three windows, one at the left, one at the right, one behind. Hot spot from the righthandshoulder to make the gold more gold.
Camera on a tripod, manual whitebalance, AF, autobracketing on, this is -2/3 EV.
Post processing: Autolevels, fade autolevels to 54%, cropped, resampled to 640 in wide, USM 0.4, 200% 1, save for the web at 83%.
Manual levels didn't do any good, 100% auto was to dark and unnatural, so this is a balance between autolevels and the orignal warm tinted whitebalance.
Orignal idea was to do something with cows, but the wheater was horrible and no farmer milks by hand anymore. :( |

CC: Your comments above have given me an excellent idea of where you are comming from with your image. The lighting is fantastic coming from the three windows (as you have explained), it really highlights the whole subject. The setting is nice and inviting and makes the viewer want to have a cuppa/coffee. The chocolates add a nice touch as well. The only picky thing is that hotspot to the left of the image, where the light is bouncing off the table. Overall a beautiful image which IMO certainly meets the challenge. Well done. |

Yes, that drink needs milk! What a lovely cup! I have to say that as I have one like it in my china cabinet! |

Beautiful and Enviting. What else can I say? So real! You almost want to put your fingers around the cup and drink from it. |

Perhaps a little more cropping would help here, also maybe a different background would set off the cup more. The chocolate looks good! |

Very pretty cup and good color and focus. I'm not sure that the background adds anything but I like the shot. |

Very simple and very good. Nice colours and great composition. Focus is perfect. A little disturbing light up in left corner but it´s not a big deal. Well done and many points from Sweden. |

Very nice shot, makes me want to head upstairs and grab a cup of coffee with some chocolate in it. Very good focus. Good luck! |

Pretty porcelain, but the background is dull and the shot has little to keep my interest. With some better lighting and shallow DOF, this could be a more interesting shot (there are tutorials about these things on the site). |

Nice clear shot with good composition. Might have it a bit better without the red area and reflection in the upper left corner, just a little more cropping would have eliminated the red. Maybe a different type of surface under the cup and snack, too. or a move away from that seam in the hardwood in front of the cup. Nice work, anyway, good luck in the challenge. |

Very pretty. The focus and clarity are great. Love the colors in the cup and saucer. The light glare in the upper left corner seems a bit out of place and draws attention away from the subject a tad bit, but nothing serious. The angle and framing/cropping are good. I like how you have placed the cup in the lower right and left neg. space in the photo. Nice shot and good luck in the challenge. |

First reaction......pretty. The tea [coffee] cup is very nice as is the table. The dark candy is a little lost in this light... Good luck. |
