St. Paul's AME Church. You can see the outline of Africa on the left side of the window. (Note that it is flopped because it is meant to be viewed from the inside; the photo is in its natural orientation.)
I liked the way the edge of the shadows more or less followed the contours of the fence top and roofline. I tried to use the fence to obscure the security lights on the lower portico roof.
I used an angled rectangular blend on the frame to add some highlights, and a faint blurred edge to add depth and make it more a "frame" than just a border.

Greetings from the Critique Club };-)

Initial thoughts
Beautiful color, meets the challenge, Fence is a distraction

Composition/ Content
Like most of your commenters, I would have liked to have seen this either without the fence or the fence in a different light. Actually, I like the idea of having the locked gate in front of the church. I think it is a perspective on our world today that needs to be shown. It just seems like a distraction with the light hitting it the way it is.

Background
The sky is nice and adds to the blue colors in this shot.

Camera Work - Technical
Focus seems good and contrast is excellent for the difference in light and shadow you have here. I don't agree that the stained glass window should have been shown being hit with sunlight. I think it would have washed the color out too much.

Digital Processing - Technical
I like the border a lot. I think the colors and gradient really adds to the colors in the photo.

Fits The Challenge
It almost fits the challenge too well. I think the window would have been enough. Hanging over the fence to take the Church window may have worked better here.

My Opinion On The Photo
I originally scored this shot a six. I think that it meets the challenge and I really like the colors. Good job, and keep up the good work.

I would be happy to talk further about this shot if you would like to contact me.

Why the Locked heavy gate infront of a church? The shadows are distracting and appear to be caused by two totally different things. I really believe this photo is a sign of the times - when you have to lock a gate to Heaven's gate. There's a story here, that needs to be written with this photo on the front cover.

Cool colours and composition. The shadows on the gate are a bit confusing.

Nice composition. Might have liked this better if the window was lit rather than shadowed and the border a little more flat.

This is a nice photo. The border compliments the colors in the photo well. I don't particulary like the shadows on the gate. I don't like the little bit of tree sticking out of the left side either. But since you can't just chainsaw a tree down maybe waiting until earlier or later in the day depending on the direction to get the sunlight lower and not cast the shadows. Just a thought, still a very nice photo. Good luck in the challenge.

Good sense of perspective. Border well chosen.

I would have loved to have seen the window in full light. I like that you included the branch at the top corner, and I do like your border. The fence in front really is distracting for me - I think I would have tried to crop right below the window.

As the picture started to emerge on the screen I thought oh no another church. But, I like the way the title and the gate work together. The lighting on the gate is great, I will assume you could not get that lighting or it needed to be in shadows so you could see the image of the stain glass. Personnally I would like to have seen some light hitting the window. But won't subtract points for what I would like to see. Good Luck, John Gill

challenge met. nice church building, i love stainglass window. the gates are rather distracting in this shot, even though i understand they are the focus of you shot. the strong light/shadow contrast suggests you took this photo during the daytime, maybe earlier in the morning or later in the afternoon (if that was possible with your schedule) would've softened the shadows some.

Awesome window. I don't like the gate or fence in the picture at all. - Inspzil

I think the color is nice. I would have liked to see more light on the window.
the spraypainted gate is unatractive.
