Thank you to all who made comments. My husband and I love to look for rocks. We are avid rock hounds. The stem of the mushroom was found on the Old Texas Trail. 26 miles North of Moorcroft, Wyoming. And the top was found 7 miles away from the bottom. The rocks are mainly a concretion of mud. We have a couple in our yard. They make for a great decoration. The mushroom is about a 1 1/2 feet in height. The background was hard to get ride of. It is our deck. We really haven't had to worry to much about caterpillars smoking hookas on it. lol |

I'm wondering if it's a real mushroom or a stone statue? :) |

Close crop might have hurt this one. Neat view, and great detail. |

great perspective. this baby had to be a good size just to get the camera under it, but the angle, texture and lighting are wonderful. |

All this needs is the caterpillar smoking the hookah! Very cool perspective! |

Wow. Where did you place the mushroom to get it to be in focus? I can't get that close with my camera w/out everything being blurred. What's that in the background bottom left? And bottom right is a little distracting, too. |

nice idea. I think it would have looked better zoomed out a bit.this way the mushroom almost looks like its made of concrete! |

I love the texture in this photo. It's not really a mushroom, though, is it? It seems like it would have to have those little gill-like things...but I don't know. The framing is good, I like it a lot better than if you had included the whole top. I do wish though, that the background could have been a little more consistent. |

I just know that on top of this mushroom, there is a pshchadelic caterpillar puffin on a hooka... :) This is a VERY interesting perspective... nice work! |

Seams to lack a little contrast but apart from that, a great photo that fits the challenge perfectly IMHO. |

The very soft lighting is perfect to show the delicate textures of these rocks. The deep, earthy colours are gorgeous. I like it a lot :) |

good take on the challenge -- but it could have been great, except the crop is much too close...without the title, i'd have no idea what this is |

Texture would make for a great B&W shot or a tasty breakfast. |
