Challenge: From the Ground Up (Classic Editing)
Camera: Canon PowerShot G2

Aperture: f3.2

Shutter: 1/60 second

This is a statue of Lenin. Said by some to be a savior to his people at the time, and by others to be an oppressor surpassed only by his replacement Stalin.

I overexposed this a bit on capture. I fixed this up in PS by decreasing brightness. A littel bit of curves adjustment followed, and then it was finished by a fast trip through variations (more blue, more red, mroe yellow, more yellow, darker.) It was then resampled to 640x480 and sharpened.

I like the black and white on it. There is lots of contrast as well.

Nice angle, good clarity, and from the ground up. Nice B/W effect.

Works well in B&W. Could you have taken it from an even lower angle?

Good angle and the b&w together with the caption really brings the point across.

Good angle, and nice, moody tone.

I like this a lot but there seems to a bit of a flatness to it. Maybe if you would have left this in RGB/color mode and desaturated you could have given the subject a bit more contrast/depth. The worst way to do black and white transfers of color shots is to go to grayscale. Not saying this is how you did this but for some reason digital loses something in B&W unless you leave the photo in color mode and desaturate, perhaps leaving some tonal shift in it as well..

Cool. Very powerful image. Greyscale works well here. Great depth of field and sharpness. Very natural looking. I can imagine the sculpturer "chipping away" to create this job. Keep it up!

Great framing. Got just enough of th head to show what statue is. Evokes emotion of being at this guy's mercy.

Nice texture. Good use of black and white. Nice framing. Technically, I wonder if the levels should be adjusted because I don't see any true 'white' highlights, but that might have made the sky white too. The greyness might actually work though, it makes it look more 'oppressive'.

Good shot but too much body mass. Would be good if you can show more of the face.

Very nice. Good use of black and white to convey the historical importance of this figure. I'm no history buff, so at the risk of sounding like an idiot, this is Lenin, correct?

good choice for B&W, lots of nice textures and a boring sky, make the B&W work well!
