Yeah, in hindsight I could've done lots more with this little guy (who lives on a shelf over my computer) -- and FYI -- I'm not afraid of him, but lots of people are ...
As to the question about the reflected spots on his back - those are grains of sand that either he or some of his food (crickets) have kicked up
Oh - and "HE" is a B.Smithi otherwise known as a Mexican Red Kneed Tarantula

Close to being a great shot. But unless you're afraid of just the legs of a spider.... (I know, I know... very picky.) I wish you could see more of this guy's face and not just the legs. You're close enough and have such a great definition of the hairs on the legs that I bet the eyes would look great.

This is a pretty good nature shot but spiders with hairy legs aren't to be feared.
07/14/2002 06:40:00 PM
nice
07/14/2002 06:13:00 PM
this is really close up!
07/13/2002 04:32:00 PM
ooh. gross. and yet so cool. I like.
07/13/2002 03:31:00 PM
Almost looks like a monster.
07/13/2002 09:38:00 AM
Nice closeup, not so scary!
07/13/2002 05:45:00 AM
Good macro work, nasty spider.
07/13/2002 12:43:00 AM
what animal is this?
07/12/2002 02:41:00 PM
Yuckkkkkkk. I guess you got your point across. Blech.
07/12/2002 01:04:00 AM
Brave!
07/11/2002 11:50:00 PM
not as bad as all those other spider pics, thank God
07/11/2002 07:06:00 PM
Nice macro/abstract that conveys the theme well.
07/11/2002 11:58:00 AM
Good detail, and depth. This picture is a lot closer than I want to be! :-)
07/11/2002 10:46:00 AM
awww, how cuddly! one of the better spider shots. are those his eyes in there? mag 99

Is this a red-kneed tarantula?
Youve got some spots of reflection in the middle top of the picture. If they are from the reflective glass, try using a polarising filter, or getting in the cage with the beasty.

can't tell what this is
07/10/2002 10:53:00 PM
"Fuzzy wuzzy was a bear," not a spider ;-)
07/10/2002 03:18:00 PM
Too close up
07/10/2002 09:23:00 AM
umm yea I hate spiders. This is one of the better spider shots

The hairy leggs remind me of my wife. (red hair) - I want to see more of the spider. - zoom out a little. increase the DOF. - nice picture - 7

Wow, now that's really micro! It might have been better if you had moved back a little though. It would have given you a little more depth of field and if I had been able to see more of the spider it would have had more impact on me. Shey.

This is a very nice shot... Macro images sometimes work better with a little extra depth of field to bring the full subject into focus. if you chose to limit your depth of field on this photo to just the upper part of the spider legs, you were successful. IMHO, I would like to see more of the spider in focus to enhance this photo in my view :) = 6 - jmsetzler

spiders don't scare me, I don't see why everyone (or if it's the same person) likes to take spiders that much..
07/09/2002 12:26:00 PM
Way too little DOF for this to really work. AS wider angle to give more context might have helped
07/09/2002 09:30:00 AM
Fear of fuzzies?! I take it this is a spider? You need a bit more sharpness. This fits well into an abstract category.
07/09/2002 12:30:00 AM
Not sure what equipement you're using, but if possible you need to get more depth of field so the spider is in focus instead of just a knee cap of a spider. My camera couldn't do it, so I can't say how.
07/08/2002 11:56:00 PM
oh sure..give it a cutesy name....it's still SCARY!!! eeeeek......10
07/08/2002 10:58:00 PM
I think this is a spider?
07/08/2002 07:43:00 PM
Best insect close up! That's scary! Almost too close. 8 Swash
