Tough subject. I came up with - anger, horror, and saddness. I believe this sums up most peoples worst fear--the lose of your child.

This photo literally brought tears to my eyes. Wish I was around when this challenge was going on.

Real emotional impact. Great story in a photo. Nice use of shadow

subtle and very effective for this challenge. clear and well focused. my top pick.

good photo. to me the shadow looks like a little girl. really must be a fear for parents to loose her child.
maybe a less DOF would be better. that way the background would be more blurred and wouldn't distract from the main object.

creative 5 interesting 3 focus 9 framing 4 = 5

nice texture on stone. shadow is questionable in interpretation - "fear" lost on this one

very true, didn't think about that.

Well-done... Nothing is as frightening and saddening as the death of a child.
07/11/2002 10:50:00 AM
one of the better shots in the challenge.

Wow... what a powerful statement. simple... uncluttered... totally effective. Great job!

This is a great idea. I wish the light had been better suited to getting a less distorted shadow. 7

Creepy

This image touches the soul and brings thoughts of the inevitable, even for our youth. It touches home more than you know.

I think the shadow could have been set up better.

That looks like a little kid's shadow, which makes this a much more frightening scenario. Another idea, (not better, just different) would have been the shadow of the Grim Reaper cast onto the tombstone. I like the black and white for this, and my only suggestion would be to "move" the shadow up the stone a little. karmat

Nice storytelling.

This photo really makes me think... The perspective on the stone is a little odd since it looks straight on the right and off balance on the left, but I know this is from the camera angle... I think that taking about two steps back and allowing some breathing room for the tombstone in the image would be nice :) I applaud your respect by not positioning this on the front side of the stone :) = 7 - jmsetzler

More sad than fear, but thought well conveyed. 7 Swash

cool! : )

I'd thought about tombstones, too. but the child's shadow is an eloquent touch I'd never considered. So much more evocative. Well done concept. I wish the shadow weren't distorted quite so wide. Perhaps a different angle or another time of day? Very nice representation of challenge

I like what your photo represents for the challenge, but I'm not happy with the way it was carried out. I'm not entirely sure what I would have enjoyed seeing better. I guess the one thing that bothers me is the brightness of the tombstone.

Great shot. I like the angle.

Nice effect with the shadow.
