 actually, this is emma, central region pole vault champ, clearing her personal best, 10'2". this jump put her in first; she went on to top out at 10'6". not bad for a freshman, first-year jumper...

this was the front page photo in the Mechanicsville Local May 30, 2006.

post: made a layer for the sky and a layer for emma. multiplied the sky and adjusted it's hue/sat. adjusted curves for emma. burned her hair a bit to bring it in line with the sky layer, dodged her face to lighten it a tad. cropped and sized for web.

i'm pretty disappointed in how this finished. i really have no clue what it takes to wow this dpc crowd. shots like these aren't created, and they sure as heck aren't automatic, nor are they snapshots.

This has got perfect focus for such a difficult shot and the background is great. The composition is spot on and her expression is nice and interesting. I bet she loves this shot. Except for the slight lack of light on her face this is an all round perfect shot and one of the most underated shots I've seen in a challenge. This is the sought of shot I like to take. Maybe you should have had someone tossing up diamonds in the background. Better luck in the sports challenge eh.

Forget "wow'ing" the DPC crowd - some of us like what you do just the way you do it and are pretty darn impressed with stuff like this.
