This was one of my few 9s (although I only got to 200 shots). Loved the feel and textures.

Really good shot, nice job. Bear said it about the composition with the bike cropped off the bottom - the tight crop on the right is good, it creates visual tension that goes perfectly with the expression of the rider, and the overall shot. But, the bottom of tires and the ground they're on are almost as important as the riders face in most MTB shots, IMO.

Super depiction of intensity, could be a motivational poster. Exquisitely good toning.

B/W perfect choice. I feel the dirt. I like the choice of crop wuth him pulling out from where he was. Good luck on this well composed study.

This my pick for the blue ribbon. Great action shot. The DOF and focus are spot on. The tonal range is excellent. The expression on the athletes face provides insight into the action. Great job.

Good Luck.

This shot conveys the bike ride well.

Unfortunate truncation of foot and bicycle at the bottom really hurts this otherwise spectacularly-rendered scene.

I like the photo; however, there are a few suggestions I offer. Next time, put the open negative space in the direction the rider is going. Right now, it looks like he is about to run into a wall. The exposure is great, but I feel this photo would benefit from being full color.

Another suggestion, I feel like the impact of the photo is as such that if you broke the photo into 4 quadrants, your main interest would be that upper right quadrant. Perhaps you can run it through PS again, cropping just to that quadrant and posting it on outtakes.

For me, the rendering in B&W really makes this image work. Color would have stolen from the drama in his face - excellent choice.

Cool photo, I really like the devotion it brings accross. I almost wish he were on the left side of the frame looking into the right though, instead of looking like hes about to ride out of the shot. 7

Great b&w conversion, very good range of tones. Good composition as well. Just curious though, did the color version of this not work? Usually jerseys and mountain bikes have a lots of great color. The previous statement is just me thinking about your photo, don't take it as that's how you should of done it.

Very nice but maybe lighten the face just a little so the expression can be seen on the entire face. Still great!!

Very well composed and an absolute perfect shot for B&W.
The depth of field and focal focal work very well in this.
