 Well - this is an embarassingly bad imitation of Ursulas "winter blues". I expect this to do horribly but it was a great experiment for me as I don't take shots like this. I used my 50mm lens with one extension ring on it. Sprayed the flower with glycerin/water and set it up against a black back fdrop with two desk lamps shining on it from behind I think. The extension ring gives way too shallow DOF and getting any sharp detail on the petals was tough. Had I the lens that Ursula used I may have been able to come out with something a bit better. Of all the shots I took this one was the most pleasing to the eye (yeah the other ones really sucked). I hope not to have a new low score.

PP - RAW conversion with tweaks in everyting - color temp, exposure, shadow and highlight contrast, hue, saturation, sharpness and noise reduction. In PS - more of the same plus selective color tweaks, USM and NI several times, resize and border.

Adding in my tech details I see that my aperture is 0 but I am guessing that it is more likey 1.8.

One final edit - Special note to parents of small children - Glycerin USP ingested in small amounts by toddlers can cause diarhea.

Very pleasing to look at. The purple in the back looks so soft that it's almost like a gas flame in shape and color. Good choice for the challenge, and I see that it did better than you thought it would.

The crispness of the illuminated petals with the dew is complemented nicely by the OOF back of the flower. Nice job

So this one pops up, hmmmm, looks sort of familiar. I have a very similar image in my portfolio. :) Yours is lovely. The colour is fantastic, the purple pink just glows, almost like the colour of those glow sticks. Cool! If anything, the light looks a bit harsh. I like the composition very much. Did you notice that the drops on the front petal look almost like a face?

My daughter just came by and said, "Ooooh, that's pretty! Looks like one of your pictures, like the blue one." At least she knows my pictures ;-)

This is very pretty, but with the black background, I am not having quite as much sense of bokeh, but that might be thinking too narrowly, so I won't deduct for it. The vivid fuschia and wonderful light really adds to the shot. Great focus on the petals in the foreground, with the one oof, which I like. Good luck. It's good.
