IT's good... but I still think the wine COULD be a little more interesting

Nice idea, and like how pencil shaving sits in pool of light. Would like it with only table as background, not any of the gate/ ground etc which we can see. Also think wine glass needs to be fully enclosed in shot and more vertical. Very atmospheric idea which makes me think of writing travel journeys sitting in a quiet cafe or villa on holiday.

Neat picture. I seem to be drawn to the shavings cause it seems like it's in the spotlight. The lighting is great for this photo. I like how it's light and dark. The glass kind of bothers me cause it looks like it's going to tip right over. I like the angle of the photo though, so I don't know if this was avoidable at this angle. The only other thing that distract me is the water ring on the table behind the glass. At first glance, I had been wondering about the angle of the pencil and the side of the notebook that the writing was on. After some though and having my left handed brother write something out for me, I realized that the view is only different to me cause I'm a right handed person and this is (or was set up to look like) written by a left handed person. So although it seems strange to me, my brother didn't find it strange at all. even if it were written by a right handed person, the way the pencil is set down with the point facing north west actually proves otherwise. So, not bad for a lefty. :) Great job and good luck with the challenge. ~Hbunch7187~ Aha!I figured out why I was bothered by the whole left handed thing. (sorry, couldn't let it go) The ANGLE at which the photo was taken makes the notebook LOOK like it is turned in the direction for a right handed person, and the actual writing and pencil placement look like it was written by a lefty. That's why it bothered me, however, the notebook it's self is actually sitting parralel to the edge of the table, which would make the notebook straight up and down to the writer. It's just the angle that threw me off. Ok, I can sleep now that I've figured out what bothered me. Sorry to make it so complicated. I think I look too much into things. It is a great photo and I gave it high marks. Congrats and good luck. ~Hbunch7187~

This is an interesting shot, but I wish I could read the comments in the book. It's close, but not quite readable. I like the sun spots on the table and paper, nice touch to place the shavings in the brighter one. Nit: two water rings towards the back of the table (see, really nitty!) Would it have been possible to pull everything towards you a couple of touches? I think the off the table stuff is more distracting that additional, but in this frame, that couldn't be cropped off. 8 Swash

good idea time to open a bottle

I like the simplicity of this shot, but the poem should be easier to read.

that's a really sharp pencil. this shadow of the glass bothers me just because it interrupts the dappled light from the trees. Did you try it with the glass off-center?

Nice, just not crazy about the background. Distracting, but nice work. Score 6 ~Kee

I'd like this more if the wine glass with the car reflection had been cropped out, and the emphasis was on the wonderful light you have falling across the paper.

Nice picture, but the glass hanging at an angle feels odd and wiping the table where the glass originally stood would've been good too...9

Nice photo. Shame that there isn't a little less shadow.

I would have liked to see some space at the top of the crop where the wine glass is ... Good luck ... RLS
