good idea, in fact, i was toying with doing something similar, but ran out of time. i think i would've preferred it if you had cropped in closer on the pencils, all the dry and green grass takes up a lot of the photo and isn't so visually appealing to me. the watering can and the 'picked' pencils are a nice touch though. -- gr8photos (4)

planted a bit close together - looks like my garden!

Might work better if the pencils looked like they were actually IN the ground (as if they'd been planted) without the visible trench. It looks like the pencils were just shoved into the ground, which I know they were, but it looks too staged.

Monday night, at midnight, this was the first photo that popped up in my list. I laughed my butt off. Thanks for that. This is a great photo. The angle and focus are great and the lighting is simply perfect. I don't see a shadow in the picture at all. I have to wonder though if you got the seeds from the photographer of "how does your garden grow". This challenge has been a riot. Thanks again for adding to the humor and doing such a nice job of it. Good luck in the challenge.

Composition - good
Technical Aspects - quite good
Meets Challenge - yes
Visual Impact / Originality ΓΆ€“ good
Other suggestions ΓΆ€“ a tighter cropping would have helped a lot

I was surprised at the number of garden pencils we got this week. I like your additions of the water bucket and "spare plants", very funny. I could have wished you had weeded a bit more.....(joke) and (just because other's thought of a similar idea, don't put up with any cliche comments...good job!) 8 Swash

Great shot, well composed...

Cute idea. Might have more impact if earth wasn't so patchy, maybe rows of lettuce or such with the row of pencils between them?

Don't they do better when you plant them in the Spring time? :-)
You may want to thin them out a bit or you may end up with a forest.

neat idea :) I think the leftover pencils by the water jug look a little out of place maybe? - jmsetzler

That would have been cool if you could have sprouted little flowers on them.
