 Perhaps cliche but I hope the angle from which I took this from would make voters think otherwise. Besides, the bottom of this sunflower is more interesting than the top. I wanted to highlight its texture so I used a very small aperture to make the whole subject in focus. The fuzzy texture may look too blurred if a shallow dof was used. In my opinion I used just the right amount of sharpening but some may comment that it's focus is too hard.

Shot with two small lights from the front using a black background, narrow aperture and long exposure.

Post-processed in Photoshop CS. Very little adjustments in cropping, color, levels, cloned a couple or three small white spots, USM applied and border added.

Sigma 70-300mm (macro mode)

This is very beautiful. Everything is excellent except I am not comfortable with the tip of the pedal nearly touching the border. It creates a visual tension that distracts from the rest of the image. Excellent color and textures. -9

First, my confession - I am partial to flower shots against a black background. That said, this is a great shot, nice framing, great colors, interesting angle.

The lighting transforms the petals into flames for me. Very dramatic. The choice of black background helps emphasise the colours in the flower and stem.

Very nice lighting here. It acutally looks like there's light coming from the flower itself. Beautiful colors, looks wonderful against the black backround.

textures and colors are really nice it's s stiff flower qhich makes for a stiff composition but this does not necessarily detract as there is enough of interest in the image

very nice flower macro....I have always loved close-ups of flowers....great color....good composition....strong black background, and focus is very sharp & detailed!!

Technical: fits the challenge. Exposure focus lighting all excellent- I absolutely love the saturation. Personally I feel the composition could have been stronger with a little more space above and below.

Personal: The detail and color really make this shot for me.

A bit sharper would have brought out more details in this shot, the little hairs on the stems would have been much clearer.

However, it's a great Macro shot. The colours in this are amazing, good choice of border too.
