This is such a wonderful tribute to Sean. I know he would have loved it - I know I do. This really spoke to me during the challenge as being an image that he would not only create, but identify with. Superbly executed and expertly presented. There's wonderful emotion and style shown here. Congratulations on your well-deserved blue ribbon and for sharing this gem with us. |

Thank you, Michelle. Your kindness in registering to tell us this has made my day. I'm so glad that you feel blessed by our tributes. There are many on this site who worked hard to show respect and honor to Sean. I'm really pleased that it's meant something to you and your family. We are blessed in return. :) |

Hi, I'm Sean's sister in law, Michelle. I just wanted to tell you that your picture was my favorite from the very beginning and i so appreciate your post and tribute to Sean. He would have chose this photo too in my opinion. The response on this website to our loss has been so beautiful, i don't even have words to describe it. Thank you so much for thinking of my sister, Melissa, it means the world to me. Thanks again, Michelle |

Thanks, Techo! That means a lot to me because, for the year 2008, (if I'm reading the list correctly) there is only one image with a higher score than this and that is YOURS!
I think folks were being very generous with their scores since it was a tribute challenge. I didn't realize this was a really good score until kteach had me looking at the high scoring photos.
Regardless, I appreciate the high votes and the really friendly and encouraging comments (AND the ones that aren't!). This place is WONDERFUL! Even when my score is low, folks have encouraging AND helpful things to say to help me grow.
I hope I can add back even a portion of what I've gotten from this site's commenters.
Thanks bunches! :)

This is Melissa: Wow! This is an amazing picture. I loved this one a lot. I love the tone and the border. It was beautifully done. Sean would have loved this one. Believe me, I have spent many many hours sitting in front of this computer screen judging and voting on shots with him. He taught me a lot and I learned which ones he would pick. And this is certainly one of them. Thank you so much for participating in this tribute to my Wonderful Husband, Sean. He would have been so happy!! And I just sent you my address. I would love to put this picture up in my own tribute to him. Thank you so much!! |

Timfy, I had an eight or higher for most of the challenge... up until thirty minutes before it ended... *sigh* But, it was a THRILL all week long. I kept looking at that 8 thinking... surely it's a 6 that I've mis-seen. *smile* Thanks for your kind words.

I'm going to add that this is my favourite. There were a couple that did a good job of emulating Sean's work, but this one is original as well as, to me, the most poignant and touching.
Sorry I could only give you a 10, and hope you win. |

Great shot nicely composed. I love how the inside of the barn/stable makes such a nice frame. One little nit-pick is that I'd like to see less negative space frame to get more detail on the subject. Maybe a bit overexposed on the background. Underexposing in camera or PP wouldn't really hurt the silhouetted subject. |

Love the silhouette of this cowboy and his best bud, the horse. Also the composition is very strong with a frame within a frame - the dark barn acts as a frame that shows us a moment frozen in time as the cowboy gets ready to saddle up and ride his horse. I also like how the background is in nice focus showing us the outside environment of trees and fence. We really get the sense of a ranch in a forested country. Another strong element in the photo composition is the choice to have that backdrop in sepia. That gives us the feel of not only a time of the ol' west but it also compliments the main subjects which are in silhouette. Color would just compete and draw the eyes attention away from the main subject and may or maynot add to the mood that you have captured of the ol' west. Good job. |

I love it: composition, square format, tones. The stance of the cowboy and the horse - I can feel nearness between them. The stand of the horse - it seems so obedient.
Don't know why - the picture gives me some sad feeling... But a very good photo. |
