Pretty sure this is a bit too far out of the box, but my Point of Color was so far in the box it resulted in a minor case of hives. And didn't even make the top 30, let alone the 13th I was secrety hoping for. So to balance that out, I'm going for a bottom 20% here. Girl's gotta have goals, you know.

Alternate titles for this are "Bittersweet" and "Refined". "Bittersweet" because the store was closed, and "Refined" in keeping with the challenge of "sugar".

I really did try to shoot something with sugar in it. I even bought two kinds of sugar and had grand ideas of creating a sugarfall with granulated white sugar running through little brown sugar rocks. But I totally suck at creating stuff like that, and suck even more at figuring out how to shoot it so it doesn't look like complete crap. You could say that set-up shots are a weakness. More than a weakness - completely non-existant in my repetoire. I should work on those.

This, by the way, is a Godiva shop in Belgium. Though with all that Belgian chocolate around, don't know why you'd want to buy Swiss chocolate... (oops - apparently Godiva is Belgian...)

Dream score - 5.3
Expected score - 4.9

(You do know I only enter these things so people - all three of you - have something interesting to read after the challenge.)

Post challenge: Many thanks to my commenters - you made this worth entering! To ti_evom, no, it wasn't choreographed and yes, I very much agree that the person needed to be nearer the door. I waited there a bit for someone else to walk by but they kept going around behind me when they saw the camera. And to signal2noise - one of my favorite things is when people see stuff that perhaps I didn't - you did. I like that about other people's pics, too.

This had a wee bit of perspective correction to straighten the effects from the 10-22 at somewhat close range.

And how's that for a nearly perfect histogram on the score?

This is an excellent street shot. As he slowly ambles on past the chocolate. How could he pass that by.

What a stupid score.

What a brilliantly entertaining note section.

What a fabulous photo.

This is sweeter than any sugar falls with brown sugar rocks. Congratulations on the OOBIE, Deb!

What a great image in every aspect of photography, for this challenge. Yes, it is out of the box, but brilliantly done, and deserved all the rewards that an image like this should get..... Just wonderful.....

Hard to say what I like most. (Totally tickled at an oobie photo being so full of boxes). I love the totally unLadyGodivalike figure in her flat shoes right under the lit Godiva sign. Trudging. And why should you be there at that moment? Floriat mysterium. (May have made that up, may be ungrammatical, but ooboesque).

Godiva is Belgian chocolate, not Swiss. I'm not aware that we have any in Australia, but there are some Godiva shops here in Japan - very expensive stuff, too.

congratulations on hitting your 'goal', Deb. Right smack in the middle!
:-((

Of course this is a fine image and so completely suits the OOBIE concept that the OOBIE might have been designed for this one.

Now, if you had shot one of those Belgium Waffles that has been completely dipped in chocolate, you might well have taken a Blue, but we never would have had the chance to appreciate the one you did select.

This is a great photo, Deb. Might have done better in a different challenge - voters are typically so literal you know. Love the noir-ish feel to this. Congrats on the OOBIE, btw! WELL DESERVED. :)

Lovely shot, Deb, and yes that score is damn near a great histogram! Your b/w stuff is always compelling and lots of little things to see.

Oh, another Deb special: taking the mundane and somehow, once again, pulling out art. I chuckled to read most people walked behind you when they saw your camera. I've had the same problem. I want to yell "NO! I WANT you in the frame. Just pretend I'm not here!" The randomness of it is part of the fun, to see what comes along.

Anyway, back to your shot, I love how your title reflects not only the product in the window but also the generally dark scene.

Even if your not winning the challenges, I can see you are getting pretty good at evaluating your entries before the challenge. That's going in the right direction. Street photography does seem to be one of your forte's, though.

I'm glad to see you beat your expected score but I felt this should have scored higher than your dream score. I imagined a little story about the person who was disappointed because the store was closed. I loved the silhouetted of the person and the highlights of the activity in the store inside. I think signal2noise probably described it best.

Hey - I was one of your two 10's. Really outstanding image, Deb. Subtle (obviously too subtle for here) and excellent composition. Best out of box take on the challenge. Love it!!!

Black & white fits this image very well and the exposure is spot on. The store is pulling the viewer in through this dark abyss. The barely visible marquis above the window acts as bit of a tease and yields to the backlit sign inside of the shop that is more alluring and captivating. There are a lot of right angles at play - from the stone path to the 4 windows to the placard on the wall and many of the items inside the windows. These are, of course complemented by the circles in the poster center frame. The passerby adds life to the scene as the chocolatier inside is barely visible and continues his work unnaffected by what's going on in the darkness. A very engaging image.

Like it - the "Godiva" branding hit me right away. The only nit I can think of is if the person walking was more lined up in the door instead of the window(blocking the "Refresh" ad). Not sure if the person walking was choreographed or not, but the silhouette seems a little awkward.
