From the title I think you can guess that I knew that everyone else was going to do water pics too, as this was my backup photo. I didn't get time to replace with the better one since I was away over the weekend, but that's the way it goes sometimes.

From your (mostly very useful) comments, it looks like I'll have to work on my lighting in future, along with preparing the background. Thanks!

Good composition, but the subject just doesn't grab me...

good job capturing water in motion, but the composition isn't very strong.

Good stop action, but t has a difficult time keeping my interest.

The flash seems like it's a of overkill.
04/20/2002 04:40:00 AM
I think I would have left out the glass. It takes away from what you are trying to snap the photo of.
04/19/2002 08:23:00 PM
Shutter speed needed to be a few stops faster ... the bottom of the glass is washed out.

Too cliche.

The bottom of the cup is too bright, and the seam in the table breaks the motion of the liquid. Good "stoppage" of the liquid though.

A little darker, different background (not with the joint in the middle), glass w/out print on the side would've been nicer.

try to get the crack in the floor out of the pic
04/19/2002 01:46:00 AM
nicely executed!

The strong glare at the bottom of the picture is distracting. I think this would have been a more interesting picture had the water not broken up into big droplets.

Too much light towards the bottom of the frame. This might have looked better if the glass were half full.
04/18/2002 02:08:00 AM
The flash in the picture is distracting
04/17/2002 06:28:00 PM
my eyes are drawn away from the 'stopped motion' part by the glare, but good clear 'stopped motion'

Lack of originality, but at least an attempt was made.
04/17/2002 11:15:00 AM
you said it, not me ; )

well stopped motion bur composition needs working on

This photo would really stand out more with a different type of lighting. The natural light creates too many shadows and makes the water too bright. Otherwise I really like the way you captured the drips of the water into the glass. You have a good interpretation of the challenge.
04/16/2002 10:18:00 AM
I think an alternate lighting source besides the flash would have provided a more even composition.
04/16/2002 09:47:00 AM
Did you try this with more ambient light and no flash? It leaves a hot spot at the bottom of the pictue which is not appealing to me.
04/16/2002 03:29:00 AM
You could have taken an even shorter exposure, the water in the glass is pretty bright. You need more depth of field, too, a lot of the glass isn't crisp. The lip is nice and sharp, but all the water splashing around is hard to see.

I tried this same idea and couldn't get the timing down. Congratulations, nice job.

Flash is a little harsh. You get an extra point because this is a hard shoot. ;)
04/15/2002 06:06:00 PM
Nice water capture! My only issue with this photo is the framing... I would like to see the entire glass in the frame.
04/15/2002 05:53:00 PM
The glare on the glass is distracting, It would have looked cool if you would have poured on the table. Ya think?
04/15/2002 11:46:00 AM
Water, Water Everywhere !
04/15/2002 11:18:00 AM
Stops motion fairly well, but not that interesting.
04/15/2002 07:04:00 AM
Good attempt at the cliche. Bit too tight on the bottom of the glass and the background is dull. Would much rather have Caffrey's than water in the glass...
04/15/2002 03:12:00 AM
Its a good picture, but I find the background a little distracting. It might have been a bit better with a more contrasting background, to make the glass and the water stand out a bit more.
