 A White-breasted Nutchatch peeking out from his perch on a very large tree trunk. Like the contrast between the texture of the tree and the smoothness of the background, the bright bird and dark woods, and the size of the bird in relation to the tree.

PP - tonemapped the bird and tree in qtpfsgui (pregamma 0.697, mantiuk method, contrast mapping 0.1, saturation factor 1.029, detail factor 1), merged with original at 20% transparency, cropped, white balance, color balance shift toward magenta, darkened midtones, resized, sharpened with noise reduction, blurred background more, added border.

Great composition, creates such a nice scale for such a small bird in comparison to the whole forest. I love how the bird blends in with that tree. This is a great shot!

Nice, unbalanced because eyes are drawn to the light silhouette as well as the bird but I am not sure if effective as blurred silhouette is a distraction rather than compliments the bird - tough one! 6

This is my favorite of the challenge. I have struggled with recognizing the theme in some submissions, but this shot seems not in balance yet pleasing. Nice job.

nice shot! i dont know that i understand what "balance" in a photo means, but this strikes me as more of a "negative space" shot

Classic example of negative space. Although not totally negative. The blurred branches and the tones are wonderful, and the tiny bird pointing straight into the void totally anchors the image.
