Critique Club critique:
Composition/Content: This picture has great "Wow" effect with the bright and almost neon colors. The shape also adds to the presentation of the colors. The center of interest is the bluish purple star shape in the center of the picture. From there the eye is drawn outward in every direction as the star seems to explode with color in every direction. Very dramatic coloring with the yellows/oranges/reds contrasting with the blues. Interesting crop: we know the shape is a star, but we want to see the tips that have travelled out of the picture. The crop left just the right amount of background.
Background: The gradient from the light blue background around the borders to the darker blue background closer to the subject makes it appear that the subject is part of the background but at the same time is connected to and is coming out of the background.
Camera Work/Technical: Nice work with the zoom to create the "Star Burst".
Digital Processing: Interesting Sabbatier Effect processing to produce the overall effect.
My Opinion: I think you impressed everyone with this photograph. I think it would have scored higher if the audience was told ahead of time to expect some photographs with creative digital processing. I think the photo might win on other sites used to creative digital processing. The more I look at it the more I like it. Well done! |

Gordon -- I'm glad to see someone else using wacky tone curves to get interesting color effects (although I didn't know it had such a fancy name!). But we're really gonna have to get you out of Texas for a while so you can shoot some other shape... |

This should have done better. But you messed up by putting some cool effects on it. ;) Very nice shot Gordon! |

Interesting, looks almost computer generated. |

Visually wierd, but I kinda like it. I will have to read up on the how's after the challenge as I don't have a clue how this was done. The photo seems clear enough, but the pattern seems distorted. (Did that make sense?) 7 Swash |

Hmmm
As I step back, I can see that by your use of this crop with the changing of the hues, you are taking a common subject matter and giving it an artistic flair. It's an interesting shot that I could see being hung in a loft overlooking Cental Park in NYC.
You just got a score bump... |

Awesome color on this pic. I don't like that some of the star got cut off though. The blemish on the background L side 1/2way up is a bit distracting. Overall, I like it. - Inspzil |

I have to admit that I have no idea what object this is really a photo of, nor how you got the colours like they are, so I'll be very curious to see how it was done :o) |

seems to be more digital art than photography... however I do like it as an image... |

Graet idea, however the cropping the background unevenness (the spots) make it less appealing, to me. |

Wonderful colors! An interesting concept, the composition is pleasing to me, and I would very much like to know how this shot was done. What the heck is "Sabbatier"?? I've looked on the internet, but have not yet found a description of the word. Saw some references to "sabbatier photography", but it did not say what it was! Anyway, nice shot. 9. lhall |

Nice vibrant colors - good compostion. I can't think of anything to recommend about this shot, but overall it doesn't do much for me. I am curious to read the description on this one. = 6 |

The colors here are outstanding. I like the framing too. What in the world is it? I like the effects. |

Nice abstraction. I'm not sure about the cropping and positioning though. I think I would have liked to see at least one point on teh outter star completely. |

Interesting. Is the an inverted image? I think you have framed it well. I like how it falls out of the frame of the photo. Your angle is good as well. The color is quite pretty, although a bit un natural looking. Not like I'd really know what the "natural" colors would be, but it almost look inverted. I like the pattern as well. Nice abstract kind of shot. Good luck in the challenge. |

I think this is fantastic. Blue background is kind of weird - the way it's so uneven and has that weird string at left. But colours and composition are cool. |
