This is amazing! A lovely shot showing a great time in a man's life (by this stage the woman is only wanting the evil thing inside of her OUT!) but this woman hides that very well, LOL!

Truly a lovely shot, it jumped out at me from the thumbnails while looking for another.

A great photo!

But clean your lens.

Composition/Content - I agree with your choice to have Tanya occupy the left third of the image and the cloth she's holding occupy the right two thirds. I don't always like subjects that fill the frame, but in this case I'll make an exception. I happen to like that she's staring into the lens. This sells the image to the viewer , I believe. Tanya's pregnancy adds to the image dramatically, although "motion" would've been captured even if she weren't pregnant. In other words, the pregnancy makes this a wonderful image independent of the challenge theme.

Background - unobtrusive... nice

Camera Work - When an image "works" for me, like this one does, I have trouble finding fault or identifying things i'd do differently. If I didn't "buy into it" I'd have plenty to propose, I suppose.

Digital Processing - Same as previous answer.

Opinion - I'm a fan of this image. Tanya's pregnancy adds to the image dramatically, although "motion" would've been captured even if she weren't pregnant. In other words, the pregnancy makes this a wonderful image independent of the challenge theme.

Your picture did quite well, so why all your ranting on the forums in the past week. Crybaby! ;) I'll be very honest, i neither care for imagery of pregnancy and breastfeeding and am neither terribly fond of bellydancing. I think that's where your 1s were coming from. I didn't vote but i would have never given it a 1 because it is an interesting picture.
Because Tanya is staring right into the lens, the subject of the image seems more the process of photography than the process of belly-dancing. I really can't make up my mind whether i like that stare-into-the-lens aspect or not.
When i contemplate this image my eye seems to be bothered by some compositional aspects, specifically what is supposed to be the main subject of the image, Tanya or the cloth with motion. This duality creates some confusion in my mind. SinceTanya and the pregnant belly are fairly close to the edge my eye has a tough time staying inside the picture. The cloth Tanya is holding seems another main subject as it occupies a large part of the image, and yes, it has the motion to meet the challenge :) but i find this far less beautiful and interesting than Tanya. There also seems to be a few "stainy" spots on the cloth ( from the camera not from the cloth, it seems)and they are a little distracting (nitpick).
Even though i don't care for the theme, as already stated above, this would be a very intriguing, dynamite image if it would give more focus and space to Tanya and much less to the cloth.
I didn't vote but would have given this an 8 if i had because i can see that you were working towards something really worthwhile.
Okay, i have said it. Now you can beat me up in the forums. Journey

Gee, I thought this would do better. Sorry that it didn't.
Should have!! This needs to framed and hung on the wall of this lady's home. A magnificent capture of beauty, motherhood, and fun!

I love this shot! You shot a beautiful photo for the mother-to-be. I love the color tones and her eyes stand out so well. That is hard to do. The motion of the scarf is awesome. You did a fine job. And am sorry that you had to read the comment crab I mean lobsterclaws wrote. She needs to feel the love a child.

Nice job capturing both motion and stillness -- I suspect it was a tricky lighting and exposure job. Certainly puts a new spin on belly dancing!

A cool photo which really catches your attention. The vertical cropping seems a bit cramped, but otherwise a solid image.

I do belly dance too. Great relaxation. I like the motion of the cloth behind her. shows motion very nicely. There are some dark spots throughout the photo. I wonder what caused them. There is one on her belly, a few on the cloth, some one the dark background. They don't really look like they are naturally occuring in the scene. Otherwise, lighting is wonderful, angle and framing/cropping are ok. I don't think it is important to have the full cloth in the photo, however you did chop her hand off at the wrist. minor detail. I really like this photo. best wishes to the new mama. Good luck in the challenge.

Very nice motion interpretation. I like this very much. Composition is very good, color works well, and movement is terrific.

Not lsure I like the full on stare into camera, Id prefer to see both hands in the frame too.

One of my favorites this week. You could almost feel like she's moving across the picture. Nicely composed and I like the desaturated look. My only gripes, and these are very minor, would have been, one, to see the right arm in its entirety and two, if some sort of lighting would eliminate the shadow under her left arm. But a really great photograph nonetheless!

Trip. A pregnant belly dancer?
12/11/2002 08:47:29 PM
That has to be sexiest pregnant lady I have ever seen. Like the colours and the soft feel of the image. Good luck. 9

Wonderful portrait - beautiful composition - I like the way she's sideways on to emphasise both the bump and the cloth behind but is looking right at the camera.

This is intresting and kinda cool.
You will be the first person I use my New Critique Criteria on.
1. Does the photo fit the theme? (5)
2. Composition; I think the composition here is good. You may not know it but you
used a L shape composition here that works very well. With most portraits
of females you want to have the body turned. It is not a straight on torso
so you did well with that. You also Turned her head toward the shoulder
closest to the Cam. Bravo. Works very well for Female portraits. Though not
a closeup, you had her eyes closed enough to were you sould not see the
Sclara of the Eye above or Below the Iris. (9)
3. Focus; Everything that needs to be in focus is in focus. (7)
4. Background: Since the background is dark and the the subject is lighter, you
have a nice contrast here. (7)
5.Lighting: The lighting here is a bit flat. Not much contrast on either side of the
face. In Portraits, you would like to have just one light visible in the eye. I see
two I think. Since the lighting is a bit Flat I bid a (5) for the lighting.
Overall Score is a 6.5 but I round to 7.

One of the most incredible images of pregancy that I have ever seen. A stunning model, a terrific composition, great for the challenge, and I think your color choice is perfect. A 10 for me. Wonderful work. lhall

I think it is reprehensible that anyone would consider bringing a child into this world. If you truly loved your unborn child you would spare it the life of suffering, depression and misery it will undoubtedly have in this cruel oppressive world. Humans should allow our race to die out since we have only grown more cold, heartless and selfish as we progress. There should be manditory sterilizations. We must think beyond our own selfish desires to propigate our species and our fear of death! Love your children enough not to even conceive them!

gorgeous. I love the hint of color in her eyes and lips. There is nothing more beautiful than a pregnant woman. the idea is beautiful in and of itself. The artistry is magnificent. I usually only rate things that catch my eye first and this has definately been my favorite so far. 9
