Critique Club
Composition - absolutely beautiful. I love the fact that you do not have the hole in the middle, the offset really adds to the picture.
Exposure - Excellent on the wood that surrounds the entire photo, not so great on whatever is inside the hole, but that is very tough to get the right exposure for both things.
Color - love that you have it in black and white! makes it very dramatic looking, and it would have not been good in color, especially because whatever is in the hole may have drawn away from your subject if it was in a brighter color
Focus - great, no complaints!
Background - what you can see through the hole kind of bothers me.... I can't tell what it is, maybe a lower dof might have blurred this more, or opening the dof more might have helped so you could tell what was inside. It does leave curiosity to the mind though, which is intriguing in a photo.
Fit for challenge - free study, anything goes.
Wowability - this is a really cool photo that catches your eye. You definitely say WOW!
Final comments - great job on this, you got a great placing. It could have been better only by what was in the hole in the wood! Good job and congrats! |

Gracious, I really enjoyed this photo. It was one of my favs in the free study challenge :) Maybe you could elaborate on what is visible through the hole in the wood? That puzzled me from the beginning, but I still love the shot :) |

This has some serious potential, but it\'s missing something, I can\'t put a finger on it. I don\'t know what the rest of the wood looks like, so I\'m not sure if you can step back a bit without bringing something ugly into the shot. Or maybe something of greater interest in the window like a sunset or a flower, maybe a tree??? I like the subject - 8 Gotcha |

Great use of B&W for this shot. Great detail in the wood. The only thing I wish was different was something to see out of the hole in the wood. |

Great texture and contrast. I am not sure if I like whatever it is that is visible through the hole, but I really like what you did with the black and white. |

great texture, maybe it might be better without the background peeking thru the hole. love the black and white. |

Well taken photo. The whole is nearly shaped like an eye (I wonder if something couldn't have been done to accentuate that!) 7 Swash |

Wiow! Beautiful! The high contrast black and white brings out all the detail in the wood, giving it a real sense of age and wear. The composition is very strong... it takes my eyes around the wood and then off towards the horizon, making me wonder what is out there in the distance. I love it! 10. |

The right side is a little too dark, and the top is a little too light... But all in all its a well-taken photo |

This is amazing!!!!!!! Its almost like a drawing, what an impact it has!!!! Light is a little bit harsh on the upper left curve, maybe if it were toned down a bit it would be a bit easier on the eye. However, I love this! |

The shapes, lines, and detail in the grain of the wood are amazing - it's just a shame that large areas of it are blown out. Some levels adjustments might be able to rectify this, depending on what the original was like. |

I love driftwood and this is a great piece. It seems a little too bright and contrasty and loses some of that soft weathered feel, but still a 7. :-) |

nice abstract look. I took a similar shot of some wood like this. I like this shot, but it is a little bright. |

I like the idea... but theres something about the texture of the wood, or post processing that gives it a strange look... also like it's digital art and not a photo? |

Makes me want to go get my surfboard and drop in! Really an interesting photo. I don't know if you tweaked the contrast at all, but I would have liked to have seen a bit more detail. |

Fascinating. I really love how you have us looking through the driftwood. Black and white is an excelent choice here. you have taken away an element (color) that could be distracting to the texture here, and have in turn brought out supurb textures. Angle and framing/cropping are great, and the subject is very interesting to look at. Great find. Good luck in the challenge. |

I love the shot, especially that it is b&w, and your composition is terrific. I feel as thought I want to see *more* through the opening of the driftwood, but that doesn't bother me a whole lot. 10. lhall |

I like this very much. Very interesting. You can look over and over again and find new things. Perhaps a little too hard for my taste (really don´t know if you say so in English - it means that the contrast is too high). It isn´t that much, just a little. Overall a very good photo with great composition. (9) |

This photograph shows a wonderful sense of "place" (if that makes any sense). I think the one small improvement that could be made is to have "something" showing through the hole in the middle, maybe a persons sillhouette. That would make it into a doorway or window.... Nice use of Black and White. |

I like how the swirl in the wood frames this shot. The colors or lack of color emphasize the age and helps bring out the detail. I am left wondering what is in the middle part though and that area is what draws my attention most. I wish there was a bit more depth because of that. = 7 |

Lovely motion, texture and dof. Just a little over exposed and could be toned down a little. Still the focus is nice and the feel of the shot is very nice. Good work. |

This is a beautifully composed image. I can see either an eye with an eyebrow raised or an ear, reflecting or listening to the world deeper inside the blury part of the image. The tonal range is that of an Ansel Adams picture, with very sharp well defined lines. I would love to see it in a larger size, or in print. Excellent job, a 10! |

Lovely, I really like this photo. Did you add noise for the grainyness? I think it works well, it emphasizes the rough texture of the wood. Not really sure if that's water or something else through the hole. I think the real high contrast brings out the grain of the wood as well. |

Fantastic - would like it even more without the exaggerated contrast but that's just personal preference. The DOF works well - I like that the framed view is out of focus compared to the detail of the wood. Great curved and just the right composition/ crop. |
