Edmonds Bay Marinaby cabaComment: i woudl like to see a more "dynamic" camera position in this photo. i dont know if you can get to the waterline (looks like there are a few floating docks) but that might have made it a bit more dramatic.
i dont know if i like the lights reflecting on the surface or if they're distracting...the light on the far left edge IS distracting...i woudl suggest cropping it out, but then how do you cut into the sailboat? who knows...
i love the hue of the shot. the cool blue feels exactly as i remember coming in from a day of sailing feeling (thats a horrible sentence :) |

A.M. Serenityby JeileenComment: this is also what i call an "object shot". i wonder if you could get alot closer to the beach chair so that the bottom and back of it creat teh "frame" for the beach scene. or maybe you get down behind the back of the chair and shoot towards the sun....get a little more dramatic with the elements of the composition (perspective is an easy way to add dynamics).
if you were looking at more of an "object shot" of the chair, perhaps you could try photographing it 90° to its side so you get a true profile (that is, eliminate ALL perspective form the shot) make it VERY static or VERY dramatic. :)
also, the blue seems a bit too saturated.
aside from my opinions, i like that you didnt drop the chair in the vertical center. that would have been bad :) its moves like that that tell me that you were thinking about the shot and you tilted the camera skyward to catch more sky than ground. kudos for that :) |

Follow the Leaderby SonifoComment: in shots with alot of foliage in the background, i get very distracted. might be nice to see tighter framing or a shallower depth of field to blur out the dried brush/sticks. i like the lighting on the wings :) |

waiting in the midstby xburnerxComment: i'd like to see the horizon cut thru the eyes of the person so that their head is dead center in the shot...or go lower to put their head in the sky
nice shot |

Window in Puntarenasby RgarciaComment: ***Greetings from the Critique Club!***
I must agree with ChrisW123. The cropping/framing is a bit distracting for me. I find the bottom edge to be particularly "loose" with the slotted rail, the blue tabletop, and the backs of the chairs. It's got alot of elements when compared to the heavy simplicity of the sides and the top. I like the heaviness of your borders, I think it provides a good stopping point to the trees and water of the background. But because it IS so heavy, I would like to see the edge of the awning perfectly horizontal rather than the slight slope down to the right. In case you aren't aware of it, the measure tool in photoshop (pullout the eyedropper to find the ruler icon) can be used to straighten things pretty quickly.

or try the "crop perspective" tool since you do not have much of a tilt... (crop perspective can create MASSIVE distortion - if you're interested, let me know, i'll elaborate :)
If I were to re-shoot the photo, I might try to get closer to the railing and aim the lens more skyward. This would allow you to meter the sky and would probably give you a bluer sky and more detail in the boat (assuming that you use auto-exposure). You could also try dropping out the color and see if you get a nice "classic" shot.
I will sent you a few moves that i just played with. :)
Great shot, although I think it could be pushed further.

Through the Door-Glass Peepingby KatspetkatComment: i think this title should have made reference to the effect that one of these was your "other", even if its just the neighbors. like "She Lied" or something would have made it a bit more of a gut wrencher. :) |
