Casino Royale - The New 007by JawnyRicoComment by noraneko: The adjustment to the blown highlight on your hand definitely strengthens this shot. My eye went straight to the hand when I voted (I gave this a 6), due to it being the brightest area in the shot. I still think it is a bit bright in relation to the highlights on the face, but overall I think this was a very strong entry, and something you should be proud of. |

Casino Royale - The New & Improved 007by JawnyRicoComment by shamer: You left a nice comment for one of my entries this week, so I'll leave a little constructive criticism for your recent 'Bond entry (please take the following with a grain of salt, I'm a better critic than participant here - lol!):
This one could use a bit more than just fixing the hand, IMHO - to me it looks a bit washed out. You've got all that black there - you should take advantage of it - love it, ya' know? Image could benefit from a little sharpening - particularly around your face (modest USM or high pass technique then a little contrast boost overall). Your key light was way too hot & hard and could have benefited from a little diffusion - since you can't do that now, I would try to burn the highlights down on the chips (well, mid-tones & highlights) to even out their exposure. The last thing I would do is maybe add a little vignette, perhaps, plus a saturation boost.
This challenge was using advanced editing rules so all of the above would have been legal. You got a very decent score in the challenge because of a great idea - great editing would have gotten you a bit more mileage!
Some of your black level issues (from my POV) might be from a slightly mis-calibrated computer monitor, so check that. Who knows, yours might be a bit dark & mine a bit light, but as a professional I try to keep mine up to spec!
Good luck & thanks again for the nice comment! |

Just a Good ol' Boyby JawnyRicoComment by librodo: Fully agree with Larus. More contrast perhaps and teh vignetting will greatly enhance the focus in particular (and the photo in general). But this is good. I wish I could take a photo like this when I just got started.:)

Casino Royale - The New 007by JawnyRicoComment by LalliSig: Nice shot buddy, well composed and definately met the challenge head on wich is of course critical to do well in challenges here. Main problem here would be the lighting, it´s not bad at all but a little too strong on the hand and chips. A good tip would be to keep the lighting simple while you are figuring it out, the most natural lighting will come from above from maybe a 45 degree angle as that is how we usually see people lit, the sun and lightbulbs usually come from an above angle :)
Keep it up! |

Casino Royale - The New 007by JawnyRicoComment by jrtodd: This has to be one of the best in the challenge. I appreciate the time and effort in this. The hand is a bit over exposed but so what. Nice job and good luck. |
